Rasmussen University - Fort Myers

Published

Hello everyone!

I was looking into Rasmussen College in Fort Myers, Florida. I was wondering if there was anyone who has attended or currently attending Rasmussen at the Fort Myers campus? What were/are your thoughts on the program? Since I already have a B.S. in Exercise Science, I was looking at doing the A-BSN, Second Degree option. I have already attended a Nursing Information Session with the school and it seems like a great opportunity. Just looking to get more insight about the program from people who have gone through it.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Oh no! That’s horrible! Yeah, this reaction to the virus is a bit extreme. We don’t have any more in-person meetings for the rest of the quarter except for our final exam next Monday. As far as I know, it’s still a go. But we were told yesterday our clinicals for next quarter may be affected. They start in April. I hope this blows over soon.

Hi,

I’ve been looking at all your posts regarding Rasmussen. Thank you so very much for providing such a detailed experience. It’s so helpful! I’m attending the newer Orlando campus ABSN. The curriculum has changed a bit, so still feel a little lost. But at least I was able to sorta figure some stuff out. So, thank you again! ?

I’m not getting much info from the campus about how the Covid is going to change the timing of graduation. I specifically asked if online instruction will suffice for the FL BON’s requirements for clinical hours, to graduate. I figured they would be current on this info as this might change the program. I received a copy of the generalized response that was handed down from the President. It does not address this question. Do you know anything from your campus about online clinical instruction meeting the BON’s requirements to graduate? I thank you in advance for any info you might be able to share.

Keep up the great work you’ve been doing in school and am so glad you were able to secure your dream position! I hope I can get through this rigorous program with the success you’ve had. Again, thanks so much for posting all this info on here. It’s really helped fill in some blanks!

Warm regards! ?

Hey Kimmy!

Thank you so much for following and the kind words.

I was also curious about how clinical requirements would be met for the FL BON with everything going virtual. It turns out that one of my first assignments this quarter was to read the Florida Nurse Practice Act. If I remember correctly, it states that up to 50% of clinical hours can come from simulations. It does not specify what type of simulation (virtual, in-person with a mannequin, etc.), and it does not specify per quarter/semester. So, I believe that it can be interpreted as "up to 50% of ALL clinical hours can come from simulations." I hope this eases your mind a bit.

I have been in contact with someone else who is also at the Orlando campus! I've only seen pictures, but it looks like a nice campus. They are currently remodeling ours. They had completed about half of it before the shut down.

When I first started this blog, I had no idea they were going to switch up the curriculum, but I am glad it is able to provide you some guidance/information. If you every have any questions about study resources or tips, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Hi, I just started the ADN program with rasmussen and I am confused on the testing. Do we take just one final exam for every course instead of multiple ones?

Hey @tketzu

I have never had just one exam for any of my courses. Some courses do not have any exams, but most courses have 3 exams, not including the ATIs.

Thank you. I was a bit confused. I’m currently taking intro to nursing, patho, and physical assessment. I have exams scheduled in patho but no exams scheduled for the other two.

Interesting. Since I am in the BSN program, I am not sure how the ADN classes are set up. But when I first started, I had "Health Assessment" and I took 3 exams in that class. In fact, several students withdrew because they did not do well on the first two exams. That was Jan. - Mar. 2019. I know they changed it to "Physical Assessment" a couple of quarters after I took it. They may have also eliminated the exams for that class.

what's the application process like? I'll be applying to the Seminole location. Did you just email your advisor to get an application ?

Hey @CoeurCommeHepburn

So, I will explain my experience:

I attended a Nursing Information Session at the campus and then spoke with the "presenter" (I can't remember her official title). She took me to meet with a Program Manager on site. The Program Manager sat me at a computer and had me fill out an application then and there, including going through requesting my transcripts from my other schools and printing/copying my TEAS test score, etc. I was pretty much accepted right away. She then contacted me over the following months to set up drug screening and background check and all that good stuff. I attended the Nursing Information Session/applied in October/November and started in January.

Hope that helps!

Update!

Alright all you cool cats and kittens! ?

I have made it to my final quarter! Woo woo!

I finished last quarter with 2 A's and 2 B's and now have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.46. Now it is on to the last 11 weeks of school. I am so excited!

This quarter I am taking:

-ABSN Capstone w/ lab

-Professional Nursing Integration w/ clinical

-Leadership, Management, and Professional Development w/ clinical

-Nursing Ethics and Legal Issues

This should prove to be an interesting quarter, as we have moved everything to an online format, including clinical rotations. We are now on Day 4 of the quarter (we started on Monday, April 6), and still have not really been told how clinicals will work. But we should find that information out next week.

We had a live class today for Capstone and Integration lectures. They do not seem to be too heavy with busy work, but we do have a big project and presentation for the classes. Ethics is going to be where all of the busy work will be. Tons of written assignments in that class.

Since we are online now, and under "stay-at-home" orders, we will not be doing proctored ATI exams. At least for the time being. We were originally scheduled to take the MedSurg ATI next week, the Leadership ATI in Week 5, and the Comprehensive Predictor in Week 8 or 9 and 11 (yes, we were scheduled to take it twice). We will still be using ATI this quarter, but in a different capacity. Not exactly sure how yet, since Capstone lab got pushed back to next week.

I think that is all of the excitement I have for now. I will keep everyone updated on virtual clinicals/simulations and ATI, since I am sure some of you are interested in know how that is going to work.

I hope everyone is staying safe. Until next time, happy nursing!

Good job.. it will be over before you know it! :)

Super excited to apply then! All the other schools I've had interest in don't even have application links available due to the virus and pushback dates and I'm just READY to start.
