Can anyone provide any info on requirements / expectations for backpacks ... solid pattern? specific color requirement / restrictions? Much appreciated.

It has nothing to do with backpacks, but before you think about coming here - get your car Air Conditioner inspected and serviced. Folks don't know what hot is until they get here and they found out what over 100f really means. It's hot. Like over 100 every day. Welcome to Texas and Beautiful Historic Fort Sam. Enjoy.

Was on the cool side today at Ft Sam, only 100. Has been running in the 102-107 range for the last week or so. Yes, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
