"Private" CPNE workshops?

I've seen "private" workshops mentioned in a few posts and was wondering what the heck these are? Are they former students putting them on, through publishing companies, or what??? How long are they? And how much do they cost?

I was just told by a workmate about a nursing teacher in one of our local colleges who holds CPNE workshops. According to the workmate, everyone who takes this workshop passes CPNE. ($350.00) I hope to be ready to take CPNE during 3rd quarter 2007 and this particular workmate will be taking it in next few months- so I'll be able to see how much it helped her.

The answers to all of the questions that you asked will vary from workshop to workshop. Some of the more successful private workshops are conducted by EC alumni.

I took the CPNE workshop offered by EC and did fine.

I was just curious about these "private" workshops, not the ones put on by EC or the publishing companies. It is my understanding that they are put on by former students? I had just never heard of this before and was wondering who these people are and how much they are charging for their workshops. When I was still a student, there was a student who bought and rented a hospital bed, IV pump, and loads of other supplies and equipment and would invite people there to practice with him. He referred to this as a "workshop" which I thought was pretty funny.

I took EC's workshop too. I recommend taking theirs to everyone, since they are the actual horse. :)

The one I took is run by an Excelsior graduate; Tina in CA. It involved four days of review, testing strategies and practice stations. I found it to be more useful than the Excelsior workshop. Passed CPNE in Racine last month!

I took a CPNE workshop 5 years ago. It was by Chancellors, who I don't think is around anymore. I think it was well worth the money. It was for 2 days.

there is a good one north of Atlanta...check out cpneworkshop.com....I have a link to a youtube video the instructor did to show her workshop. She has a 100% pass rate so far...

]Just to throw in my own :twocents: . I passed in Racine without taking any workshops. I had resources at work I used instead since I was out of cash. I told RN's I work with I needed practice with wound care. Guess what, every pt. that needed wound care was handed to me. Next, I told them I needed IV push help and they had me do the math for them, tell them how to draw up med, and how fast to give it. That's how I prepared. Also, I used hand-washing as a way to de-stress and refocus at CPNE. Not only did it help me refocus but I found a way to incorporate a " critical element " ( asepsis ) into my stress relief.:chuckle One of my co-workers thought it was real funny to see how stressed I was at the CPNE by how often I washed my hands. Yes, I work at a test site. But it gave me no advantage. In fact, if I had to do it over again, I would go to another site. Just the stress of thinking I may not do well in front of the people I work with was driving me :bugeyes: . But, I just wanted people to know, it can be done without taking workshops too. :twocents: :wink2:

Dear Melinurse I am in the same boat. I have the lab stuff here at home and alot of resources at work, but I was still looking into a workshop. I will be testing where I work as well, but I work in the O.R. I really don't have access to med-surg patients. I will be practicing on fellow co-workers and family members plus numerous friends who have done the CPNE. I really don't have the extra cash either, I would have to work overtime just to get back and forth to the workshop because of gas prices (HAHA). :bugeyes:

I am going bonkers!!!
