Hey all, just a quick vent. I'm sure this has happened to others besides me, so here goes. I'm totally bummed out! I've been trying to get a new job for awhile now, and stuff just keeps happening to get in the way. It's not that I hate my job now, I just want a change. I need to stretch a little and try somethig new - starting to feel trapped. So anyway, I waited a month for this particular place to call me, and they finally did. I was super excited. The lady told me all the details, requirements, etc, and asked if I was interested in proceeding to step 1, which is a phone interview with HR. I said yes and set up a time, and was really excited. So they call and say that things have changed. Same job is still open, just at a different location, and different hours. I was trying for 2nd shift, and now it's 3rd shift (well really it's odd hours - like 2nd-and-a-half or something). The location is farther from home and there is no way to get the hours to work with other commitments I have. I'm SO bummed, because I really thought this was the one. They say they'll call "if things change", but guess what. I bet they won't! Soooooooooooooooooooooooo frustrating! I feel like I'll be stuck where I am forever! Why doesn't anyone ever call me back when I apply for jobs? I've had help with my resume, and have been told by several people that it is great. So what's the deal? Half the places won't call, the ones that do like me, but can't give me hours or salary I need. Aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, thanks for letting me blow off some steam...I feel better!

I feel you! I remember EVERYONE saying as soon as we have at least 1 year experience, the nursing world will be our oyster... YEAH RIGHT! EVERY place I talk to tells me I'm not qualified! I even started interviewing for new grad positions again (and I am NOT a new grad), and at this point they are hard to come by! I had an interview yesterday in a place I feel I will LOVE. I think it went really well, so keep your fingers crossed for me and I will keep mine crossed for you... Good luck...:heartbeat

I am having the same problem. :bluecry1:I applied to one hospital for 9 positions--only one of those I really wanted, but kept applying for other positions JUST to see if they'd call me back for anything! ell, they never did. That same hospital interviewed my friend and didn't call her back for over a month! She's got the job, but GEEZ!! I think maybe they are just busy, but they should have the decency to at least call back. Says a lot about it's facility.

I'm an aide in a LTC facility...I'm taking my pre-reqs right now. It took 3-4 tries to get hired on where I'm at. The main reason I got hired was an aide told me about the job on his shift. He drove me to the nursing home and I was hired that same day. I had an in basically....Anyways I've thought of going elsewhere. But as it stands now I plan on working at the same facility when I graduate. I figure it will be stressful enough being a new nurse. Why not work somewhere I know the residents, polices and procedures, the ins and outs of the place. OP I really feel your pain...even if I'm not a nurse...yet.

Keep trying, a door will eventually open up for you. It can really be frustrating, esp when you apply and no one gets back to you for a month. I think that's funky and inconsiderate. What probably happened is that they are required by some contract with a union to post a job, then someone already there from nightshift applied and got the job. So then they needed to fill the nightshift and hoped you would take it.

Everything happens for a reason.. So take a deep breath and look at the bright side. There must be another job waiting just to be grab.. It's not your lost, it's theirs.. So LET IT ALL OUT and then find time to look at reasons why it did not went your way...
DOnt give up.. Your time will come things will be a lot greater than what you expect...

If there is a job that you really want then follow your resume up with a nice "just checking in on the process" phone call after a week or two. sometimes that human to human contact is enough to get them looking at your resume over the hundred others they might have. good luck!!:heartbeat

It took me almost 6-7 months to land my current job. By the 3rd month I was really frustrated and almost gave up hope.
I feel your frustration! Hang in there...

In this troubled economy with Medicare/insurance reimbursement about to get worse, nurses are going to find that facilities are going to be choosier about when to hire and which candidate is their top choice.
If you really want a job, you need to take the initiative and call them to check on the job and let them know you are interested. You need to make yourself stand out from the crowd or your resume gets lost on the desk with everyone elses.

Hi - I would say this is not the job for me. If your being messed around like that, then it says a lot for the organisation. Vaue yourself, your quailifactions, your profession. Jump off that wheel and take some time out to decide what you would really like to do. Oh and count your lucky stars that you didnt get called back for that job.
Thanks all! Nice to know I'm not the only one this happens to. I don't feel like that company did anything wrong - if someone internally wanted the job, they deserved first crack at it. I'm just disappointed, that's all. And I know all about the calling to check in after sending a resume, but in this case, I couldn't. It was an online application, and there is a note about "don't call us, we'll call you if you meet our requirements" at the end. I met the reqs, and a month after I applied, they called.
To those of you who have said that you haven't heard anything about jobs you applied for, don't worry! It's not a lost cause yet - sometimes it takes 2 months for HR to call you back. True, a lot of jobs haven't called me back, but a lot have. Waiting is just so hard!
I am good where I am now, it's just that I feel like if I don't get to do something different for awhile, I'm gonna blow! I can always go back to my hospital later, but I need to do something else now! Thanks for all of your support, and good luck to those of you who are also job seeking - we'll all get the jobs that are right for us! ...eventually...
