  1. I did have an assessment in two provinces, Sashketchewan and Alberta, and I know it takes a LOT OF WORK, TIME, MONEY and effort to BE ASSESSED and HAVE a LICENSE.. I AM VERY AWARE.. I was merely suggesting AN OPTION.. Because honestly, they don't give VISA like candy either because of RETROGRESSION... I know that because I am still waiting for mine to be approved. I only cited Canada as an option, there are countries like UK, Australia and EUrope.. Which ever comes FIRST:up: Still, it's her call right? Just Suggesting people.
  2. It never hurts to get other options. The fact that new nurses are having a hard time finding job, setting yourself to one option will not make you go any further.. I mean that was just a suggestion. I know "THE" current shortage of nurses there, but it's getting harder to actually GET IN THERE per ce because of the Retrogression. I mean it's still her choice by the way. Just giving a suggestion..:)
  3. it is very helpful.. The more you master it, the more it will be easier for you to have a brief understanding of a patient's Medical Conditions by just coining out the diagnosis. And by it, you'll be proud of yourself.. you'll benefit from it i assure you
  4. Prolonged period of having catheter increase risk of having Infection, obviously for a reason that it is a foreign body. Plus the French of the Catheter is smaller and i doubt it that it will cause pain unless it was pulled or tugged I have had post spinal surgery patients that have menses and at the same time catheter. We've used a maternity pad for her due to her heavy menses and it's hard on her part because she had asked several times to change the pad and there would be instances while taking the pad out the catheter will also be tug or pulled. Having known that it has a balloon inside anchoring the catheter inside, during that instance of immediate pulling patient complained pain. For me, I think tampons is an advantage somehow, but depending on the patient's preference.
  5. I am an international nurse my self and been processing immigrant visa since 2005. Up until now, I'm still waiting for that.. Currently working in a different country while waiting for the visa to be release (i dont know when).. First, find a hospital that sponsor such petition, but you being a newly graduate would be difficult, but dont loose hope.. Try to look for other options, gain experience from another country , such as canada. Lets just say you were able to find a hospital to sponsor you, your petition process will still go further for months and who knows years.. Instead of waiting, find a job and gain experience.. More experience, the more marketable you'll be.. Good luck!!
  6. This is what i love about allnurses.. You learn from others... great!!!
  7. Honestly people... It has nothing to do with the CULTURING of the BLOOD.. It is is NOT an ANTIBIOTIC.. Going back to basic, ACETAMINOPHEN (TYLENOL) is a PAIN RELIEVER AND A FEVER REDUCER... If we look closer, it is not given to patient with kidney or liver disease or who are alcoholic. What are the possible complication or SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS under this medication? Allergic reaction Liver Damage (yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue); Blood problems (easy or unusual bleeding or bruising).. Thus in conclusion, It has something to do with the PROCEDURE ITSELF.. Drawing of Blood can lead to Blood related Problems.. I think it is much logical to say than to relate it with the CULTURE..
  8. No one can ever tell you if it fits you or Not... I was like you before, I took Computer Science first because it was in demand, but decided to shift to B.S. Physical Therapist, again, because it was in demand... And we try to have that thinking, how in demand the Job was, or how good is the pay, then we will be constantly Shifting from one course to another. I assessed myself and I thought that if I continue doing this then, I wont be getting any course completed... Then, my professor told me how Indemand nursing is, TRUE, I got attracted to what it has to offer and at the same time, having that assessment on my self (and with my Nagging Mom, who constantly tells me you wont attain anything by constantly shifting). I told myself, I'll finished this and Be a Nurse... My point, Set your Goal, NOW... Assessed yourself if you can withstand the sight of blood, can I do shifting of schedule, am I willing to do calculations and Not give up... Can every hardship that I encounter while studying nursing will not hinder me to still pursue it? If you are determine and it is in your heart, starting now, I'm congratulating you.. Be consistent and strong... Dont make vain endeavors and put everything in action.. We are all different and Unique.. Nobody can tell you if it suits you or not... As long as you are determined and willing to face a lot of issues in relation with Nursing.. Then you'll be okey... Good luck
  9. In every career or profession that we want to achieve, expect that you will encounter a lot of hardship... Should this stop you? No.. It is the time to take the initiative to be a working student... If this is your dream, GRAB it and hold on to it.. Ask of your Husband, I know it's none of my business but as stated,INCOMPATIBILITY ISSUES in living together? We all know for a fact that when we engaged IN a RELATIONSHIP, the two person involved grew up differently, raised by their parents differently... You got into the relationship, got married because of LOVE, right.. Loving someone means Compromising but at the same time, bringing out the Best in you.. If it's just a matter of Not flushing the toilet, on how differently you both squeeze the toothpaste, or he's a mess in the kitchen stuff, that thing can be talked about.. Both of you should remember why both of you got married.. If INCOMPATIBILITY ISSUES in LIVING TOGETHER will always be the reason for divorce, then nobody will be staying that much longer anymore.. unless there are other reasons.. Try to assess how you approach things.. I cant really advice you to dont mind your relationship with your husband and pursue nursing as if nothing is happening, because reality wise, your study will be affected.. Deeply affected especially you still love him. But, if there really isnt anymore ways to save the relationship, it's the time for you to step it up and take control of your life, WORK like there's no tomorrow and STUDY as if it was your last day on earth.. Support yourself... take one step at a time... If you think you cant afford to go to school, take one step at a time, find a Job. Then if that Job can support yourself through Nursing, then work and study... There are brighter hopes.. Hope for something yet to come... No room for slowing down.. Challenge all your Excuses.. It's like running another mile when you are already tired... Keep running....Give life your best shot...Dont give up...
  10. Put your heart into it.. Many have thought that Nursing does not involve Numbers... But Nope, we depend on Numbers... and our License depends on calculating the RIGHT DOSAGE of MEDICATION.. This is not to scare you and all.. It's just that a HUGE part of being a nurse is to safely administer a medication on the right patient (right: dose, drug, frequency, route..etc).. Because one slight number drop or error you make, you're on your way to making incident reports or worst. You see, you'll get use to it.. Just put your heart and soul into it, if being a nurse is really what you dream of doing.. Plus, in time, you'll be able to make your own easy way of calculating, you'll get use to it...:nuke:
  11. if you are determine to pursue something, even if it means to leave the school you are currently into and think practical, it wouldn't stand in the way.. You have a dream and a goal. Yes, you did something great in that school, but who knows if you there's something greater waiting for you in the local college.. You have to think practical nowadays.. You have a goal, To become a nurse. What you have achieved in University of Detroit is nothing compare to what you can have when you become a nurse in a Slowly but Surely way.. Think practical my friend. Practical, and determine... Keep that hopes up..
  12. Well it will keep going and going... The thread is about ACCENT.. Just mainly ACCENT.. It did'nt say anything about GRAMMAR and COMPREHENSION... It's ACCENT.. It's like a patient asked the Foreign nurse, "Hey nurse, What's this medication for?", then the foreign nurse answer, "thet midecation ez for yur exesting enfection.(translation: that medication is for your existing infection" and the patient says "WHAT?" the nurse uttered the same ACCENT.. Then the patient asked for another nurse to take care of her... Cant you see where this going... It's the ACCENT for crying out LOUD!! I dont stand with the rest of the Foreign nurse here but, Before any foreign nurse could practice there in the US they have to take an ENGLISH PROFICIENCY EXAM from which each and everyone of them will be assessed and evaluated based on 4 categories, their ability to LISTEN, SPEAK, READ and WRITE. ACCENT is there and I must admit that it will be a hindrance.. But in months time or depending on how actively that foreign nurse communicate with a native staff, that accent will not be totally be diminished but somehow improve.. SO, we are COLLEAGUES here, help Foreign nurse diminished that accent, instead of complaining.. It's for our own good right?:heartbeat
  13. the fact that she gave her number means that you need to ff-up on the outcome.. I guess she's also assessing if you really are interested with the Job.. Perseverance is the key. Don't be a pessimists. If this is the opportunity for you, GRAB it.. If not, there are other open doors to welcome you.. You did'nt just graduate first in class for nothing, right? good luck!!!
  14. Honestly, I never thought that MATH is very vital in this course..VERRRRRRRRRRYYYY VITAL.. From knowing conversions of weight, height, pints, pounds, grains, mg, ml, liters, quarts to even drops!!! Oh my goodness.. If you are not a math person, your mind would definitely go crazy!!! The more you will realize that NUMBERS and CALCULATIONS are very vital in pursuing this profession..Besides, the life of the patient depend on the RIGHT DOSAGE Calculation.. I was laughing with one of my classmate back then, she said the reason she took this profession because she's not good in math. Little did she know, everything about it needs calculating... Adult dose to infant, etcetera etcetera.. But, if Nursing is in your heart, you'll get the hang of it.. It's just math anyways, (Nothing we cant handle) jk:eek:..
  15. Ummm, the problem here is not ACCENT... It's COMPREHENSION... hmmm?
