  1. Hey Y'all! I has been FOREVER since I have posted; I have been pretty busy with school! I started my first day of clinicals today at a local nursing home. I was super nervous about clinicals and of all the unknowns a new experience brings. It actually started out pretty smoothly. We started off with partners, feeding breakfast to the residents and changing bed linens. Having a partner really seemed to help my confidence. Then, when 12:00 rolled around, it was time to give finger sticks to the residents. There were 5 people in my group, so each of us were required to do a finger stick on a resident. I thought, "no biggie" I have been doing pretty well so far, so this simple task should be ok; I was WRONG! I had told my instructor I would take this certain resident, because I had gotten to know him around breakfast feedings earlier this morning. I had never done a finger stick before, so I was a little nervous, but nothing compared to this morning. Well, when I started to stick the finger, my hand immediately started to shake and I began to get flustered. The funny thing was, I didn't feel nervous when I offered to do a finger stick on this resident a few seconds before. My instructor who is a little abrasive, immediately told me I was doing it all wrong. That didn't help my nervousness and confidence, AT ALL! Still flustered, I finished up the finger stick and it was my classmates turn to help another resident. All of my classmates and even my instructor know I am a nervous person. I joke about with them because I know it's true. Inside, I am so FRUSTRATED that I get so nervous. I wish I could tell my body to stop. I am already on medication for anxiety that stems from middle school. If they only knew how my nervousness used to be..... I don't want to give up on my first day, but I just feel so frustrated and embarrassed that I get so nervous. It doesn't help that tomorrow with have our own patient to care for..... I would love some advice on how to keep from being so nervous. I feel as though I am the only one in my group who became flustered today. It really is getting me down...... :/ Sorry for the long post. I just needed some advice. Thanks so much!!!!

  3. I will be starting my LPN program on January 6th. :) So nervous and excited to start..... :)
  4. Hey Y'all!!! I have been doing a lot of thinking lately and thought I could get some feedback from my friends. :) I have been contemplating what I am going to do after I finish lpn school. I know I just started, but I have always been a future thinker. :) I am wrestling with the idea of staying an lpn or working my required year and then going on to pursue my rn. Decisions Decisions. I know the money is greater, but money is definitely not everything. I feel that if I work at a clinic or LTC that it would be less stressful on my body. I have mild cerebral palsy and worry that I would not be able to physically handle the 12 hour shifts the hospital requires. What are your thoughts? Did y'all wrestle with this too and ultimately decide to stay an lpn? Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much! :)
  5. Hey Y'all! Wow, it has been almost 3 years since I have been on this website. I guess my long absence was due to the fact I had given up on a career in nursing. Well, after a lot of soul searching and one year of college under my belt, I had a god given epiphany. I realized that nursing is all I want to pursue. I have dreamed of being a nurse since middle school and that desire has never left me. Well, now I am so excited and thrilled to say that God has opened the doors of nursing for me. I GOT ACCEPTED into the LPN nursing program and was one of 150 applicants; narrowed down to 20. I am thrilled!!! I start July 7th and cannot wait. I will be here often and would love to gather advice from all of you. Meg. . .

  7. Hey Y'all!!! I know that I posted a similar post a few months ago about Gordon College, but I am in need of some more information and insight. I am applying now to attend there as a freshman next August. I was wondering who has attended Gordon previously or is attending now? I am really excited to attend, but was wondering what life is like out there? I am going be staying in the dorms with a good friend of mine of school, so I will be spending a lot of time at Gordon and around Barnesville. How are the Professors and dorm life? Are there any places around downtown I should know about? I am going to be starting off as a Pre-Nursing major so I hope it goes well. Thanks for your help! :)
  8. Hey Ya'll!!! I really have the drive and love of the nursing field and really want to become a nurse, but I have been getting worried. I know I am still a senior in high school and have plenty of time to figure out a career, but nursing is all I ever come back to as a career choice. I think what worries me is reading and hearing about all the nurses/student nurses who end up hating nursing and come home crying and wondering if they made the right decision. I don't want to be that person and someone who hates their career. I want to be someone who loves it and is passionate at what they do. I believe I should at least try because I will never know what I am capable off. I am just not sure? Have any of ya'll ever felt this way and found a way to turn your doubt and dislike about the field around? I really want to be able to make it in this field and love it. :)
  9. Hey Ya'll!!! I was wondering how difficult the math is in nursing school? I am really bad at math and was wondering what I am going to need to work on to be successful in the nursing program? Thanks so much! I really don't want the fear of math to keep me from fufilling my dreams. :/
  10. Thanks!!! I really think night shift is the way I am going to want to go. :)
  11. Hey Ya'll!!! I was just wondering if a New-Grad gets to choose which area they want to work in? I am really fascinated by Labor and Delivery and all of it's aspects, and I know that is an area I would love to work in. I have heard though, that some hospitals make you work in Med-Surg if you are a New Grad with less than 1 year of experience. I would really be sad if that is the only option I was offered.
  12. Hey Ya'll!!! I was just curious what your opinions were for night shift and day shift. If I get into nursing school and survive it, I was wondering if night shift would be the best option for me? I would most likely be single and with no children but hey, who is to say from now till then. :) Anyway, I am a "night-owl" and really love to stay up, so I was wondering if the night shift would be a better fit for me. I just like the quieter aspect of it and with it being it night. I have read though that some of the downfalls are having trouble sleeping, less help from doctors/nurses.....ect, so I am not sure would be best. What do ya'll think and prefer? Thanks! :)
  13. Your right!!! I will never know until I try and darnit I am going to try!!!! :] :)
  14. Nursing is something I really want to do, but I am beginning to question myself with the what if? question. I think what scares me the most and is making me consider another career choice, is the the thought of hurting someone because I made a med error or hurting them while having to do a certain procedure (ex. inserting catheter,iv). It scares me beyond belief, and this fear even trumps the more dirty aspects of the job which, you would think would scare me more. I was wondering if anyone out there felt the same when they were considering a career in nursing?
  15. Hey Ya'll!!! I am looking into becoming a CNA to help me determine if nursing is something I would be interested in. I was wondering if anyone who is a CNA or has previous CNA experience, could give me information on what the job entails. I was considering working as a CNA my first two years in college to help me determine the right career choice for me since I am battling with that right now. If you could help me that would be great! Thanks! :)
