A search in New Jersey's license verification system does not turn up a license under that name. However, this article Jersey City toddler Destiny Abdelmalak scalded while allegedly under care of in-home nurse - News 12 New Jersey lists a different name, which does have an LPN license in the verification system.
First of all, the spelling on the name has been misconstrued by all of the papers. This nurse was a home practical nurse sent by a state funded agency. And, seriously, what is your motive in questioning whether she was a nurse or not? I think you are missing the point here. The bottom line is this this ellen Ejimkonye or whatever her name is is a sick person and got some sort of nursing certification and then tortured this innocent child. I hope she rots in jail!

Irresponsiblejournalism in the past has identified any health care provider, whether a licensed nurse or not, as simply a "nurse". Identifying someone who has done something heinous as a "nurse" when they are not maligns the nursing profession as a whole.

There's a lot of assumptions there, and not a little xenophobia. A- innocent until proven guilty in a court of law; and B- just wow. I certainly don't condone what happened to that poor child, but this is a newspaper, not legal documentation. Newspapers write to sell.
The license *********** is registered by Ellen O Ejimkonye of New Jersey. The license type is specified as Licensed Practical Nurse. The original issue date is listed as 2012-12-14. Based on the information obtained by ProLicenses from the state licensing board, this license's status is "expired" as of March 29, 2013.
Screw the papers, I have stood over her bed as she screams in agony from the pain she is in!! So be a little more compassionate here please and mind your harsh opinions!
This implies that you are either caring for her, which in that case you could potentially be violating HIPAA, or you are a family member, in which case reading online statements may only add to the heartbreak. I am quite compassionate to the young girl. What she went through is horrible; that doesn't mean no one can also expect justice to be accomplished through the proper channels- jury trial, not public opinion.
It is clear that you are close to this case. I am so sorry that this happened to your family/friend/child. We as nurses are appalled that anyone caring for a child could inflict this sort of torture and the agency that allowed this person to continue to practice with an expired license, for over a year, needs to be exposed and closed. As a nurse, you should have compassion for this poor girl. You should also know that no one accidentally boils a baby...and her screaming for 15 minutes wasn't a sign that the water was too hot?!?!
NO ONE HERE is defending the accused and we all agree that she needs to be punished for this heinous act. I think you are close to the situation and aren't really "hearing" what is being said here. We are on your side.

WAS THIS A HOME HEALTH AID? I think the paper should have verified whether it was a nurse and if so, what type. What do you think?
