the "mean girls" of nursing school

Does anybody have else have the "mean girl" clique in your class? There is a group of girls that were all together for the first clinical of nursing school and they have been BFF's ever since-- and they are all super smart and beautiful. I feel that they get away with talking during class because they are the prettiest and smartest in our class. Everybody else thinks they are super nice and sweet, but I am sooo sick of them.

Oh ya, and about half of them are using their BSN to get into med school and the other half want to be NP's. I can't stand them.

We have a couple of "mean girls" that sit in the back and the teacher, on many occasions has had to ask them to be quiet. I called them mean because they sit in the back of the class and call people names (my friend sits next to one of them and she has heard them). But anyway, one of them just failed out the first semester.

I would just like to mention that I don't think the OP is calling the girls mean people. So before you turn it around and call her mean, I believe she is referring to the move "Mean Girls". The movie had a clique of three girls very pretty girls who were able to get away with whatever they wanted. The movie has an almost cult-like following in a certain age group. Never did she actually say they were mean girls! Haha.

Well you can't use your BSN to get into med school.

Actually, you can use any degree to apply to med school--may it be psychology, english, or the typical biology major--all you need to do is complete the pre-reqs, which are basically the foundation of science classes that pretty much everyone takes to major in bio, chem, physics, etc.

The means girls the op describes sounds super hot lol

Try to focus on what you need to accomplish, instead of what is going on with others in your class. It is not what is important. The most important thing is you and your patients. I think you should always be friendly with your peers. If it's not reciprocated, then don't waste any more of your time. You probably have enough to worry about! Know that in the future you will work together with fellow nurses as a team. I think you will have to take the good with the bad and make it work for you and your patients :) JMO (green) as I am a nursing student myself.

I know an RN in her first year of med school, she had to take two classes and that was only to get a good score on her MCAT. I ignore BS in my class, but I'm never oblivious to my surroundings. I think this is a better place to vent than in class.

Seriously? This is really an issue with you? Ignore them. Don't surround yourself with people who will bring you down. Of all things, you don't need this while attending nursing school. Focus on yourself.

I think when you first start school you definitely want a good relationship with the people that are going through it with you. Have you tried to be really friendly and get in a study group with them if they are doing well? If they refused forget it and find others. Get a peer tutor. It is important to find someone to rely on/ help but if it's not them.. Why care? Focus on what you need to do.

From what I remember about that movie, those girls were pretty mean, both to each other as well as to their other schoolmates.

Meriwhen - I think the mean element of the group was actually the one "queen bee". The other girls were actually just kind of dumb and ditzy! Either way, I think she referred to the group and didn't actually say that she had a bunch of really mean girls in her program.

Luckily I am in an accelerated second degree Bachelors program and the students range from 22 to 60. We have a lot of older students.

No mean girls. Lot's of different personalities but for the most part we all get along. Half of us moved here so we don't have family and really rely on each other.

The only thing we have is mainly with some of the guys. They seem to try and one up each other on who is the smartest. We have some very smart girls but they don't pull this competition thing like the guys do. And our class is about 40% male.

Wow your class is 40% male?! I haven't heard of a group that high, but I mean that in a good way. I know I'm only with half a dozen guys and they are totally the opposite - they help each other out as much as possible and exclude most of the girls. Luckily I managed to make friends with them so I help them and they help me.

And not all the guys have this lame competition thing. Just a few of them. Maybe it is 35% male but it is pretty high.

I moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Puerto Rico for nursing school and most 22 year olds to pack up and move to a bilingual island. So it is an older crowd and we have a ton of guys.
