what are some you"ll plans in nursing?mines to is to open a enterprise for people who cant afford nursing care in the er.

Specializes in OB, HH, ADMIN, IC, ED, QI.

That's a very worthy enterprise; and some clinics have urgent care departments for that.

You'd need to be a NP or PA to make an impact on the health of those who might otherwise go to the ED.

If that's a hurdle too high to accomplish, you might publish symptoms organised by body systems, that require ED visits.

My main complaint about the use of EDs, is the parent who comes rushing in with a baby who is bundled up in quilts, having been speeding to get there, and didn't take the time to put that precious life in a child passenger safety seat, much less give tylenol at home, and if the temp was over 102 (A), give that baby a tepid bath and recheck the temp. :o

I taught the expectant parents who took my classes, that treating a fever is more important than getting their baby to someone else who they thought could do that better.

Specializes in ORTHOPAEDICS-CERTIFIED SINCE 89.

I really enjoyed working at the free clinic. However there is no salary attached and you give your services as you are able. Some days we saw people who shoule have been in hospital or even in icu but totally without resources and too proud or too sick to go to an er. Sometimes we did have to call 911 out of human compassion. We even delivered a few babies-definitely not my area of expertise. The clinic is definitely underfunded as are most services of its kind and had to shut down for the months of November and december. I haven't gotten a call yet for this quarter.

im sorry to hear that i hope u get the call this quarter :)

Specializes in RENAL NURSING.

i plan to be of good cheer to my patients esp. in my field- nephrology nursing. I want to give the best times to my chronically ill patients even before they enter their last few days of treatment.

In my 2 yrs. of experience in dialysis, i can say that lots of lives are lost in CKD but as nurses we need to give them a lot of patience, humor & love. Most importantly, share the Gospel of the Lord to them =)

i wish you the best in the future in god name:)

yeah during my comm. health rotation we did non profit work doing bsgs and bps at inner city parks and stuff and there was one participant who had a BSG >500. I forget what it was exactly and the person was totally symptomatic and we werent allowed to call 911 because he wouldnt let us. So I convince him to let us follow him home so he can get his insulin. We cant administer it. He gets it and then administers his sliding scale of NPH instead of regular. arrrgh! He said thats the only insulin he had. very frustrating situation for me because I want to be able to fix patients but in outreach type places you cant always do that.

Ill plan to definitely volunteer to do more of this in the future because the education and follow up we gave seemed to really help and the people started to learn that we really cared and wanted to do something that worked for their needs.

Since you started this thread by asking: "what are some you"ll plans in nursing?mines to is to open a enterprise for people who cant afford nursing care in the er.", it seemed you were interested in career paths nurses anticipated, or things they had accomplished. I assume that you asked me to provide my background, because I didn't indicate what my personal path is/was.

The purpose of my post was to indicate to you, what is required of anyone who wanted to change the system we have of providing care in what patients perceive as urgent situations.

Anyone can access that in detail, by going to my Profile and reading my posts or reading the points under my user name. With 50 years oif experience as a nurse, I have done many things in nursing, most of them involving teaching/supervising nurses, in varied roles.

May I recommend as you wait to begin your nursing studies, that you get better comand of English? The question posed to me in your post was more intelligible, than the subject of your thread title, so I imagine that you got some help wording it..........

Specializes in ICU, ER, EP,.

try to find a doctors office postition or cardiac clinic where I make the same money as my night supervisory ICU position;)
