I will be attending a "job fair" this Wednesday the 13th. What kind of questions should I be asking? If it were for E.M.S. I would not have any problems, but, as a graduating (I hope ) nurse...What should I ask?

This is what I would ask (tailored to where you are going, i.e., which unit):
*what are the NORMAL nurse - patient ratios
*do they use Med Techs or LPNs to give out the routine PO meds
*ask how many CNAs will be on the unit you're looking at and how many patients they will have
*ask which "model" of nursing they use....if they say "primary" or "modified primary" I would run like ####
*ask if they have a "clinical ladder", i.e., tuition reimbursement if you want to get your Bachelor's......also ask about any sign-on bonuses, relocation, license reimbursement......and how much time you would have to pledge to get that, if any
*ask about on-site visits/interviews so that you could actually SEE the unit you would be working on
*how ask they schedule (self-scheduling?), and how far in advance it is
*ask if they work eight- or twelve-hour shifts
*ask about their policy concerning weekends - how many/how often
*ask how long their orientation is
*ask if, you do not click with your preceptor, if you may be re-assigned
That's a start...................

Thanks Sun! I'm also going to a job fair in November and wasn't really sure what to ask! I'm also dressing just as if I were going to a regular job interview (nice suit) and bringing many copies of my resume. Anyone else have other suggestions?

where are you interviewing?
i am in nj!
cool! My school is going to the nursing spectrum job fair in Edison. I haven't started individually interviewing yet. Where's your fair?
although i now live near philly, i grew up in north jersey. i would recommend robert wood johnson, overlook or morristown memorial. i used to work at overlook, and if i still lived up there, would probably be at morristown now.
i went to muhlenberg son in plainfield, and graduated at 20. i worked there as well in their er after i graduated. i wouldn't really recommend the hospital though. i got my bsn from kean.
i don't know where the fair is bc i've been a rn for 17 years and i am presently not looking for a job!
what area of nursing are you interested in?

My 'true love' is emergency nursing. I've taken a tour of morristown and liked it, but it's a bit far away from me. I'd like to work at Jersey Shore, St. Barnabas or RWJ or St. peters. I've never been to or looked at overlook so thats definatly something to think about. I recently went to look at Temple in philly. Is that near you? I loved it there, but no so sure if I would want to live in PA...maybe just on the border of NJ and PA would work. I do my clinicals at RWJ and worked there previously. I really like it, but no so sure if it would be my 1st pick...had some not so good expirences there :uhoh21: I'm really excited to see all the different hospitals that come to our career fair. Its all soooooo confusing, but in a good way! :rotfl:
