As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

For working in the US or Thailand? Sounds like you actually have more than average for Thailand. And enough for the US.

I intented to go for USA actually. I have read the information from the BON NY. Notice that i have to send my nursing education details to CGFNS for review before apply for exam in NY.

I am now working in Kuching (the cat city), Sarawak. Its part of the borneo island.

If you are going the route of NY, there are only three applications. You can submit to NY at the same time that you send to CGFNS, or wait. The choice is yours. If you can afford it, it is easier just to get it done at the same time and then just sit back.:)

Hello. This is my first post on this board.

I'm a japanese RN working in Japan.

I've applied for CVS-NY in Sep.,and CGFNS seems to be waiting for requirements(My license validation form , transcript validation form from my school）.

CGFNS says that the verification will end in six months when they can receive all requirements.

I'll study English and Nursing for Visa screen and NCLEX in this six months!:idea:

Is there anyone on this board whose verification(of CVS-NY) ended in six months? I've heard it may takes longer than six months:icon_roll

On average, it only takes about four months to get approval from NY to sit for the NCLEX exam. You are only at the two month mark right now, adn no one ever gets it that quick.

On average, it only takes about four months to get approval from NY to sit for the NCLEX exam. You are only at the two month mark right now, adn no one ever gets it that quick.

Is it different from The New York State Education Department?

BON stands for Board of Nursing. In NY, the Education Dept handles all of their licensing. It is the same thing.

hello suzanne. I am a Filipino nurse and i have passed the CGFNS last JUly and i also passed the IELTS exam. Now, im planning to take the NCLex exam. I have the form of SAIPAN BON and I'm planning to apply on there BON but i'll be atking the test in Hong Kong. I choose SAIPAN because among all the BONs, the SAIPAN BON is the cheapest, they only need $80.00 for the NCLEX exam while other states cost $110.00 for the NCLEX fee. Also,the SAIPAN BON doesn't need fingerprinting or live scan in order for us to be eligible to take. WHat they need is thecredentials from GED (general edu subjects) and the TOR from the nursing school.

What's bothering me now is that, are you familiar with the SAIPAN BON if they issue the "HARD CARD" as your license card even without the SSN same with the NY BON?

Why are you going for licensure there, when you are not going to be working there, or are you? You will still need to endorse to another state if working in the US.

Vermont is fast and cheap also, and they issue you a hard license, but again, you are still going to need to pay endorsement fees, and you still need to go thru the Visa Screen process, so you really are not saving yourself anything. If that is your issue. Actually costing more money for you.

Not a good idea.

Unless you are already in Saipan, then there is absolutely no reason to go for licensure there.

I read with great interest your thread and I learnt some really interesting things...however I didn't find a situation similar to my own, so perhaps you could help me? Please bear with me; I'll try to be as concise as possible!

I am an American, grew up in the USA and finished 2 years of university before moving to France in the 1990's. I obtained a RN nursing degree in 1997 from an accredited Red Cross Nursing school in Paris, France. I have since worked in different public hospital settings (namely surgery, general medicine, psychiatry, and intensive geriatric care).

Now I have moved back to the Pacific Northwest (WA) and am looking into getting my American RN degree. My first step was to inquire about licensing with the CGFNS...and to my surprise, they informed me that I must take their English and CGFNS exams for licensing in Washington state. Only then would I obtain a number (ATT?) permitting me to pass the NCLEX. The fees and the time delays seem very costly...not to mention all these legislative procedures when I am American!

I have had a lot of expenses due to my international move and therefore not only do I want to economise as much as possible, but I'm also pressed to get working!

Is it easier to pass the initial licensing procedure in another state (MA, NY ou NM for example) and then get a WA license by endorsement? I do have family near Boston that I could stay with if necessary. Or would it be better to just do the whole - long and expensive - WA CGFNS procedure? I contacted the WA BON and they directed me to the CGFNS internet site...

I, of course as an American, have fluent english (laughs) and a social security number. I just want to have my RN equivalency as quickly as possible and do what I love doing, nursing!

Any information would be highly appreciated!

Since you do not need anything else, I would go fo licensure in Vermont and just endorse afterwards. That would be your easiest way.

I am not sure if your answer about applying in VT is for me?

If so (and please bear with me once again....) what would be the necessary steps for licensing? Should I contact directly the BON in VT? Do I still apply to the CGFNS or does the BON in VT take care of that?
