Hi, I was just wondering how high does your gpa have to be to get into TCC's program? I know they require a minimum of 2.5, my question is to those of you who are in the program or have been accepted, what was the gpa you got accepted with, if you don't mind sharing? Also those of you who are in the program, what do you think of it, how are the classes/clinicals/instructors/coursework? Thank you!

I would not recommend TCC to my worst enemy. I am a level 4 nursing student at TCC, so I can tell you first hand what it is like. MOST of the instructors don't give a crap about the students. They could care less about what they have to say. Here is a letter from our class representative that she sent out to our class.. this should give you a clue as to what we have been through:
To those of you who were not aware, the committee that accredits our program held open forum meetings yesterday at the Southeast Campus, one at noon and one at 4 o'clock. I was able to attend the 4 o'clock meeting and brought out several concerns that have been discussed recently.
First to all of you in Psych, thank you for your thoughts and your signatures, they were delivered to the committee.
To those of you unaware of the meeting, rest assured everything was brought out in the open about this program: the lack of instruction, the unrealistic workload, the instructors behaving as adversaries, the fact that our class has been guinea-pigged throughout this entire program, and just the unavailability of the instructors overall.(I did say there were a few instructors that weren't like that.) I also brought up the issue of the resources that the instructors make their power points from and the Anystream lectures. I let the committee know that we are only provided a powerpoint from the instructor and our required text (although we all have many more additional materials...especially the optional ones)..if an instructor is going to pull from outside resources we should have every single one of those resources made available to us. Also I brought out the, in my opinion, the mis-use of the Anystream video lectures. It was my belief that these were to be used to GO BACK TO LOOK AT LECTURE...not be the only form of lecture we get at all...someone made the comment that this isn't a telecourse..I agree. I didn't even know what to say about our wonderful films we've been watching, and the instructor applying cosmetics in the back. So, the point of this was to let you all know, someone does care about the success of the students in our school. This committee was very receptive and very kind. I learned that few other students on any level were aware of this meeting. In my meeting there were about 6 prospective students, a level one student, and a former instructor(who had obviously been retired for a very long time.) In the noon meeting I was told that there were a couple students from both level 2 & 3. It is my understanding that the committee will be presenting a preliminary finding to the instructors today, and then again on Monday.
If you have any questions for me, please ask. I was very proud to be there and represent all nursing students, whether they have made this far w/ us or not.
Thank you all.
It has been a struggle to say the least. This semester, 2/3 of our class is failing at least one class of three. Our class started out with 83 students we are now down to 32. I know of a few, including myself, who have dropped a class this semester.
Thank you for your reply! I was actually at the 4:00 meeting that day, I was one of the "prospective students," lol. I have applied for the spring semester, so I am just awaiting my acceptance/rejection:trout: letter. I have to say I have heard way more bad things about TCC than good, but after this semester I will have all my pre-reqs completed for their program, and honestly I just want to get in and get started, I've been going to school for a long time . I'm hoping that some of the things that were brought to this committee's attention might get taken care of by the time I get there (IF I get there), but I'm not holding my breath. I can tell you this, while I am only a PRE-nursing student right now, my experience at TCC has been LESS than desirable. I have probably had TWO teachers out of MANY that aren't worth the paper their checks are written on. The majority of my classes have been 100% self-taught, with few exceptions. Anything else I should know about this program before I enter it? Thanks again!
Sorry, I guess that last post wasn't exactly encouraging! The truth is, if you want something bad enough, anything is possible. Mind over matter, right? It is hard but who said nursing school was supposed to be easy? I think your class will probably be better constructed than mine. Since we were the "guinea pig" class, meaning they changed the curriculum and our class was the first to go all the way through it. Our class representives have been wonderful in giving lots of feedback to the intructors about what needs to be done differently. So hopefully the next generation nursing students will have it better than us! Good luck to you! Let me know if there are any other questions you have. I'll do my best to help!
Im curious, do you know around what the average gpa for being accepted to TCC is? Thanks for your input by the way!
TCC goes by a point system. They take the number of applicants and rank them according to their GPA as well as the amount of prerequisite course work completed. They also take into account the GPA of your science courses by themselves and then the others. You have the best chance of getting in if you have completed all of the prerequisites at the time you apply and if you have a GPA of 3.5+. However, with that being said, I have talked to people in my class who got in with a substantially lower GPA and with classes taken on the side during nursing school.Honestly, it's hard to say. Just do good in your science courses and apply and see what they say!
I got in with a GPA of 3.76 and had all of the pre-reqs completed. Also, be sure you have taken anatomy and physiology seperate. That is one issue I had to talk my way out of since I took it together. Fortunately they let me get in. Only because I took the class before they made that rule. Also, it helps to have taken the PCT course at TCC, however I got in with a CNA from Tulsa Tech. I also took Chem 1 instead of principles. i was such a go-getter then. Too bad I have lost my ambition. I dropped this semester completely. My LAST semester. I was so close. I have decided to take p-nclex and then look for a lpn to rn-bsn program.
Well, I got my letter last night. I didnt get in, it said Im on the alternate list, but I dont know what number alternate I am, so I'm not holding my breath. Do you know... does everybody that doen't get accepted get on the alternate list or how that works exactly? I can never get a hold of anybody in the office to answer my questions and if I do leave messages they never call me back!:angryfire All I have left to take to qualify for Langston's and OU's Tulsa BSN programs are Chem, Statistics, and nutrition so I have already enrolled in them and I will be submitting my applications to those schools in Jan. If a spot becomes available at TCC, I'll probably take it though just because I want to get on with it!! Im sorry to hear you had to withdraw from your last semester! I have heard that a lot of people in level 4 this semester have been dropping, I would imagine that wouldn't look good on the school, but what do I know, I can't even get in, lol! Best of luck on the pnclex! Please let me know how it goes, I wish you the best!!!!!

Sorry to hear that you didn't get it. I had applied to TCC and also didn't get it. I am now in my first semester at Langston. I got it on my first application ! They have received additional funding and are now expanding the program to larger classes. I have 34 in my class and no one has dropped! I would go ahead and take those last few classes required for Langston and see what happens! TCC and Langston's program is the same length of time- four semesters. Good luck and I know how you feel trying to into a nursing program- anywhere!!!

Ya, I was pretty crushed at first about not getting into TCC, but Im over it now, I think. I got my application packet from Langston in the mail a couple days ago, so Im working on that now! How are the professors at Langston? I've heard HORRIBLE things about the professors at TCC, that's why Im asking. Also is anyone here going to OU Tulsa's program? I will also be applying there for next fall. I'm just wondering because I haven't heard a whole lot about that program it seems like. Thanks guys for all your responses!
Well, I have to tell you when I was searchng to find a nursing program, I quickly noticed how extremely nice all of the staff was at Langston. I'm talking from the financial aid dept. to the nursing dept. Everyone has a caring, positive attitude and they are there to serve you and help you to succeed! Compared to TCC's "Weeding out" attitude. I can say that most of the instructors have a good attitude towards nursing students and don't want you to fail. That is what I really like about Langston. It's really up to you.
I don't know anyone personally that goes to OU to tell you enough about their program. All that I have heard about them is that it is really competitive and alot of their classes are online. I don't mind some online, but it's nice to have a real person to talk to. I'm sure they have a nice program- their campus is beautiful. I hope this helps in your decision process. But, they main goal is to get you in nursing school somewhere!!

mistiffy - no worries about TCC, I am sorry that you didn't get in, but there is a different path for you. BUT, I didn't get into TCC either and took an extra semester of pre-req's and got into OU. Needless to say, I am not disappointed. Talking to my friends in the TCC program they are miserable - they make it so hard for them. We (at OU) got a taste of three of the TCC instructor's this summer - they were brutal. So, don't be too disappointed.
Best of luck! If you have any questions about OU let me know!
