Questions about WGU Pre-Assessments and Objective Assessments

During our last phone appointment, my program mentor stated that "Objective assessments have a significantly higher level of difficulty than the pre-assessments."

She also proceeded to say that just because I do well on a pre-assessment, this does not mean I will pass the objective assessment at the end of the course. So for those of you who have completed one of WGU's nursing programs or have been currently enrolled for a while, how accurate are my program mentor's statements?

In other words, are WGU's objective assessments significantly more challenging than their pre-assessments? Thanks in advance for any information you can offer.

Some are, some aren't. There are many resources available that will help you succeed. I started last month March 1st and already completed my 1st 6 month term.

Thanks for the quick response.

By the way, congratulations! You earned a degree in less than two months? Wow.

I'd say no on that. Sounds like you ended up with one of those antiacceleration mentors who wants you to slooooooooooooow down. I'd say for the most part the PA was similar to the OA and occasionally the OA was easier. When I took it, the bigger problem was a disconnect on a few PA/OA combos - nutrition, for example - not harder but 'different'. I pretty much got similar scores on both the OA and PA for all my 'test' classes, so there is some correlation there.

Thanks! No not a degree, I'm scheduled 5 terms (6months each) but already finished 1 term in two months which means I get to start my 2nd term early and so on and possibly finish the MSN in one year or a little over a year.

I think s/he meant they did 12 CU in two months (first term). :)

Thank you for the swift reply. This is reassuring!

FWIW, that's one thing the facebook group is helpful on. You can post "I got a 68 on the PA, should I schedule the OA?" and you can hear what others think. Some classes (microbiology, humanities, informatics) that would be an unqualified yes, others would be a 'wait and study more' (statistics)..

What was your opinion on the OA on Health Assessment? Nutrition? Statistics?

When I took health assessment, the PA was missing a few content areas. That was my first OA and I studied prior to the start of my term, then took it seven days in. I did very well on that OA and actually found it easier than the PA. Most people find that the 'unofficial study guide' and the suggested youtube assessment videos help more than the suggested text, as the text has a lot of diagnosis - and the test is 'assessment' not diagnosis.

Nutrition - this test is tricky - I also took this in the first week of my first and only term. Some people think the test is hard, some easy. I didn't find it difficult and got similar scores on both the PA and the OA. Watch the mentor videos for tips.

Stats - the OA and PA have changed for this one since I took it - again, some have no problems, some have a lot of trouble passing. There is very little math on the OA - it's more concepts and definitions. Watch the mentor videos and use the various study guides. I got the exact same score (86) on the PA and OA although I actually thought the PA was a bit more difficult. But my information is not current on this exam.

I'm studying for UJC2, where can I find the unofficial guide? Any links?

UJC2 I believe is the MSN health assessment course. I'd ask in your community or on the MSN facebook page.
