I was wondering if you guys think its possible for a person to take RN prereqs while in LPN School. I am currently in Funds 1 and am handling it just fine. I would like to get the RN prereqs out of the way now so that I can go right into an RN bridge program when I get my license. Any thoughts on this? And does anyone know of an online school that would allow me to do this?

Several of the local community colleges in my area have online classes. I took an online class my last LPN semester and also took/passed two CLEP exams because they were pre-req for the RN program. Have you inquired as to what CLEP credits they take? Good luck. Jules

Just like with jobs, whatever you can handle at one time. If you can manage an extra class while you are in LPN school, without falling down in your LPN studies, then, by all means, go for it. I had a ton on my plate while I was in school. For me it worked, while it worked. The momentum of being in school usually helps. Good luck.

I think it depends on what else you have going on in your life. I was itching to get my last couple classes out of the way while in the LPN program. But I decided that even though I am a good student, if there was any chance that i was jeopardizing my completion of the LPN it would not be worth it. I was very burned out at the end of the year with just LPN classes. I work a couple days a week and have 2 kids, so that impacts my options as well.

I think it is completely doable if you have the determination, self-discipline, and the time.
I took all my "pre-req's" right along with my RN program...we didn't have to have them before we started. I also managed to take all my BSN pre-req's too, with the exception of chemistry.
It was alot of work, but I didn't have a choice, as I was already enrolled in the program and had to stay on top of things to progress. I didn't work, didn't have any children to care for...I basically could devote myself to school. I don't regret it one bit. Now, I regret not getting my chemistry out of the way because I still need to have it to continue on the BSN. I'll have to find time to schedule a lab and a class around my revolving work schedule.

Yes it's doable but it depends on what other commitments you have like family, work etc. I did my last 2 pre reqs physiology and micro while in LVN/LPN school and also worked 32 hours it almost killed me :trout: and I don't have kids or a wife, can't imagine doing it under those circumstances.

I took the RN prereqs at night while in the last half of LPN school. I don't have children and I was fortunate to not have to work at the time, so my evenings were free. Even so, at times it was all consuming. There were times in my LPN program when I would not have been able to double up on classes. And there were weeks where I had to focus on one class and let the other slide.
In the end, I got through it, and I'm glad it's over!
