Question about taking NCLEX w/immigrant status

Published

Hi Im a BSN graduate last 2009 in PHILS (our school is accredited). Then I took dec nle 2009 and dec 2010. Sad to say I failed twice. So presently Im now migrated here on California last Sept. 2011 (Immigrant status) and Im planning to take NCLEX RN regarding to to CA BON, it says there to pass a letter for those not holding a license (NLE passer)

My question is, what I should put to my letter or my reason. Do I have to write that I failed twice or should I make another reason why I didnt take NLE in Phils?

Please help me. I dont know what to do.

Thanks. Godspeed.

Be truthful also be aware many Philippine nurses are having issues with training and CA. Suggest you read the threads already on the subject

what school did you graduate?i'm also a permanent resident since 2005, but went home to the PHIL to study nursing..I applied for NCLEX-RN here in cali just last april of 2011 and just received a rejection letter from BRN. They said that some courses like OB and MS doesn't meet the standards and so they suggested that i need to take these classes, same thing happened to people i know and some of my friends.I suggest not to pass application first and make some research so that your money won't go into waste after waiting for months or year...Good Luck :)

Thanks for the comments.. Uhmm our school is international school ( I mean there's also foreign students there, an adventist university)

I don't have problems in my school coz I know it is recognized here in CA coz I have many school mates immigrants are now RN passer here in CA (came from same school of course). My only burden is WHAT KIND OF REASON THAT IM GOING TO STATE to CA BRN. Is it ok to state that I took NLE twice and I failed ( I mean if I tell that to them is not a minus to my application) or make another reason like "no intention to practice my nursing profession"

I appreciate your suggestions. Pls do help me.

** I graduated last 2009, so my immigrant status is not yet settled that time but the petition process is on going, thats why Im still in the Phils. My sister was the first who came here (obviously Im left there in PI) So 2 years after 2011 August I received my visa approval and Sept. 2011 I migrate here.

Doesn't matter if school is International. Many Philippine nurses are now having issues if their clinical and theory are not concurrent. Even when class members have done ok now others are being denied

You have to be truthful and upfront in your application. The letter is required so that you can explain why you are not licensed in the Philippines where you had your training as a nurse. Yes, the fact that you did not pass the NLE in the Philippines can affect the board's decision on whether to allow you to sit for the NCLEX-RN or not but that is a chance you have to take. Also, take heed to Silverdragon's post. There are numerous cases now where foreign nursing graduates from the Philippines are being denied eligibility to test because of deficiencies in clinical hours and/or clinical rotations not completed concurrently with lectures. Even those who have been allowed to take the test a year ago are now finding that they are no longer eligible.

Thanks for your all opinions guys... You help my to figure out my problem.

Godbless to all of you..

I hope sometimes if I have still questions regarding to NCLEX RN hope you still there for me..

Im looking forward to thay. :)

so what do you think is my best reason to state in my letter?

im also a graduate from the phil bro.. an immigrant here in hawaii just last dec 2011... what i know is you need to pass the local boards (our exam in the Philippines ) for you to be allowed by Cali to take nclex (not so sure for the new rule coz i also heard they need SS number now for foreign grad now lucky us that we have that already coz we had the chance to go here)... cause when i started processing last sept 2010, hawaii board asked me too about my license so im pretty sure it is "same rule applies" in Cali too...i know it is tough yet you really need to have your license in the phil. Coz as i observed it is the way of some the State boards to regulate the foreign nurses here in US..the solution that i know is ...

1) go back to the philippines and take the exam.. then all good... (like so lengthy and stressful but just an option)

2) apply nclex to a BON of USA that does not require local phil license and if you passed nclex RN in that particular state you might as well consider to have that license be forwarded to CALIFORNIA BON (aka endorsement)

3) write them that you don't hold a license.. if they dont ask

why..never explain...but if they ask why? it's pretty safe for you to

say that you migrated here and never had the chance to pass for your

last two attempts in phil board exam...

i like number 3 better.. do it first then if they rejected you again consider number 1 or number 2 hehe

that's all my suggestions bro... still you have tha last "say"

Goodluck and Godbless.... take care kababayan apir!!!! best of luck hehe smile.gif

best reason is to say that you took the exam yet you failed (you don't need to elaborate that you took it twice and failed.. i think that would be better..then wait for their response in that letter then do your second MOVE as you receive their response to that letter :)

How if I state that last 2009 Im processing my papers for my visa. And its my parents choice to not take NLE and just focus for nlcex rather?? DO you think its ok? Heehehe

i am afraid to lie with the boards ... if you will ask me i'll just say i took it but you didn't pass ..you don't need to say how many times...i know that they have connection with PRC coz' in my case they really made sure that i really pass NLE.. better not to lie.. if they will not allow you.. there a lot of state ..then if you passed you can transfer your license to cali... but mind you boy NCLEX is way too different from NLE... nclex is harder.... so if you fail NLE you must work double time this time .. just an advice,,,anyway goodluck
