Question about taking Chemistry

Published

Hi!

I needed Chemistry to take A&P, it could either be high school or college level. I never took it in high school, so I enrolled in a "post high school adult General Chemistry" course. The class is 2 semesters and online. The 2nd part starts next week and in the first part I received a 98%. It took a ton of hard work (I don't suggest taking science online!) and even though I got an A, I don't feel like I really understand. I have no idea why I feel that way though. :uhoh3:

So my question is:

Would you suggest taking a college level with lab traditional class?

I'm wondering because I'm worried about the NLN-RN test having Chem on it because I took the TEAS and bombed the science part. I plan on getting a BSN in my 5-10 year goal range. Three semesters is a lot and I would have to be paying out of pocket for it since it is not required. Just wondering what everyone thinks.

Thanks!

Thanks for your replies everyone! I'm def going to keep my options open. Look into what exactly is on the test and look at the BSN programs around here.

I took an online Chemistry class and loved it. Did terribly in Chem in high school, but being older and putting in the time to understand the material made a huge difference. Did the class in the summer and it took about 30 hours a week! Was a lot since I have a full-time job and young child. Thankfully I also have a supportive husband who took up the slack.

If your teacher is good, there's no reason Chemistry can't be a great online class. We had online homework each week, discussion board topics on chemistry, home labs and had to go to campus for the tests. Prepared me well for A&P.

I would take Chemistry in person so you can have better access to the professor and get a study group going. If you're disciplined about finding out the info, chemistry online might not be so bad. But at the end of the day, a college level chemistry class with a lab is not a bad thing to have on your transcripts. That way you can cover your bases for any future BSN programs that require it. You never know what new programs will start or where you'll move to in the future.

I just started my very first Chemistry for Nurses course last Friday. I was and still am a terrible math student. I a praying that it will all sink in. But my mind is swirling now. :(

@CDEWannaBe - Would you mind telling us where you took your online prereqs? Did you take them on NursingABC?

not sure if online is good. but definitely look for a professor with the best ratings because that will help you! you can do this!
