hello eveyone,
i am a new member of allnurses and am learning alot. thank you for this wonderful site. i am a sophmore bsn student at a university in pa. i am purchasing my first stethoscope. can anyone give me some information on these two stethoscopes and their differences? i am not worried so much about the price as i am about the acoustics. the one they sell at school is a generic one and i am told is awful. and advice for this new student would be appreciated. :wink2: thanks again!

I have a Classic II. It's nice enough. I used it, it worked, I liked it.
I then got a Master Cardiology and it's so freaking loud and I hear things other people can't.
I don't have the Master Classic though and have never used it. I went for the Master Cardiology after having a very large pt, not being able to hear their heart they were that large and the nurse handing me her Master and said "listen". Apparently when listening for this patient people would try and grab the Master if somebody had one because it was just impossible to hear otherwise. That sold me on it.

I have a classic II SE and I think its great. I haven't tried the master classic II though so I can't compare them.

Hello:
I own a Master Classic II (recommended by a fellow classmate) and I LOVE IT. I can hear any and everything! I have been told that the cardiology one is really really good too, but I opted not to purchase due to the cost.
Take care.

Is either the Master Classic II or the Master Cardiology heavy?
I have read about students getting a stethescope and find out that it's very heavy on their neck....one of the major reason why I haven't bought one.

My Master Cardiology has more weight then my Classic. There's no doubt there. I can't say the weight is an issue for me. It's my neck and it's not 25 pounds so it's not a big deal. I think that is one of those things that would be a matter of opinion.

I find the classic II se to be more than fine for clinical purposes. I had a regular joeshmoe sprague style steth for my first year of NS and didn't need anything more. I only have the Littmann, which I use now, because it was a birthday present

I had a sprague when I first started school and it hurt my neck. I bought a Lightweight II S.E. Littmann and it is good for clinical purposes. When I finish school and actually earn money I will invest in a better one.
