question about Saunders NCLEX book

Published

hello guys!!! i just received my approval to take the test and im thinking of setting the date 3 weeks from now

i have to study like never before but i just have a concern about the book im using

the Saunders comprehensive review for the NCLEX-RN examination edition 4

and i just found out that they released an edition 5 book and also Saunders edition 4 is still using the NCLEX 2007 test plan.....is it still ok for me to use this book? thanks a lot for the replies!! wish me luck hope i pass:D

Very little, if any, actual nursing content, will have changed between the two editions. You should be able to learn enough from the fourth edition to pass, but if it bothers you enough, then get the new edition for the added emphasis on the new test format.

Yes that's fine, I was using the 3rd edition and I passed first time. Just make sure you read the content in the book, understand it, look up things you not sure about and practice the Saunders cd-rom in study mode. Make sure you read all rationales. You will do fine with that book and cd-rom.:)

wow thanks for the tip guys that helped me raise my spirits up hehehe thanks again

I heard that Exam Cram is also good...Good Luck on your test;)

Exam Cram? whats that? is that a book?

Your asking me if Exam Cram a book? Yes.

Got this from a thread

I just happened to go to barnes and noble one day and went through the books there and when I flipped through exam cram book , I went Holly crap this looks just like nclex.....came home did research on it, many people said questions are just like how you will find nclex, then i had to get this book. I have lots of other books, saunders ( too easy for me), incredible easy ( i find it challenging), kaplan ( good strategy book), I also tried learning extension ( please people dont waste money on this, too much info on there just read your saunders book from front to back 2 times lol you will be fine), also did Hurst review thinking that i may need to know my core content again ( Review was excellent online, loved it) but unfortunately didnt workout for me.....but when i saw the questions in exam cram, It was by far the most close to what you will be dealing with in nclex. Now as i was doing questions on exam cram last night, I felt like few of the questions outta there were in my nclex

The new ed Saunders has an assessment portion you can take on the cd to figure weak points and set up a 6-week study calendar but this may not work since you have 3 weeks. I have heard ed 4 is helpful as well. Kaplan has a good strategy book that I am currently using and I am loving it. I bought it for about $19 on amazon.com

I bought both...Ed. 4 & Ed. 5...I was afraid they were different or had newer questions. There really isn't much difference between the two. In Ed. 5, there are some new charts in the chapters and of course newer question formats (watching a video, listening to sounds, etc.) but most of the questions are the same exact questions from Ed. 4. So, it really isn't important to buy the newer version.

Also, when I studied I found it helpful to use many different resources to take practice questions from. I used ATI, Lippincott, Saunders, Kaplan, NCSBN and my friend had Exam Cram. You don't have to buy all of these, but go to a book store and take some practice questions from a different text. It helped me to feel more comfortable on test day knowing that I had experience with a lot of different questions.

thanks for the replies guys... they are really helpful it boosted my confidence that im on the right track...gotta study!!!!! I WILL PASS!!! hehehehe

yes you will! good luck!
