Hi everyone!
I have a friend who recently started a job in LTC. She feels overwhelmed with the patient load and the other nurses are not very helpful. She confided in me today about recent events of bullying and yelling at work. If she were to resign now, would that look like she was a quitter and would it be harder to become employed somewhere else? I wasn't sure if it would or not. I guess it could go either way. There are consequences to the decisions we make. She asked me if she should put it on her resume and I'm not sure. I know in a background check it would show up and you don't want to seem like you're hiding it. If anyone has any experience or advice that I could share with her that would great. Thank you for your time.

Your resume is to showcase your work experience; if your friend hasn't been through orientation then I wouldn't think that it would really qualify as work experience worthy of the resume. That doesn't mean she shouldn't disclose it though. When she goes to an interview and the timing is appropriate then she can disclose that she was hired at the LTC and the environment and people were not a good match for her and didn't want to waste the time or $$ by continuing there so she resigned.
Of course, there may be a few employers that may be a bit scared off by this too....tough market right now.

My advice would be to quit now while still in orientation. She would not have to put that job on a resume.

I agree with the above responses..sometimes we know early on a position isn't for us. To think it would get any better is not reality based from the problem you mentioned. Don't see why she would mention working here on her resume. As far as a background check...I don't know of any background checks that list previous employers.

In my nursing career I have started and stopped a couple of jobs within the orientation period as I realized they were not a good choice. I have never listed them and they don't come up in background checks etc.
Put in your resignation and move on. Simple explanation if ever needed is that you realized it was not a good fit and the position should go to someone that fits it better.
