Question of reciprocity from cali to new york??

Published

i just want to know how the process of reciprocity from california to new york will go about?

coz i have applied for NCLEX-NY over a yr ago and due to some problems, my eligibility is not with me yet. and i am not sure if they will still give it to me or for how long.

i am kindda pondering on the idea of applying to NClex eligibility in California. coz the process there is faster. i am just curious what will happen to me if i passed the Cali state board and would want to work in New york. how will the process go?

I am just in a bit hurry coz my IELTS exam will expire in a year and i have to apply for visa screen before it does.

SOMEONE PLS HELP. THANK YOU

You will still have to do CVS for NY if endorsing from another State to NY. Only thing that you will not have to do is to take the NCLEX exam again. So, basically you will not be saving time by going to CA first then endorsing to NY since you will still have to do and wait for the CVS for NY service as well, no matter what. Seems silly ?? Unfortunately, this is their policy. Many have done this and pondered about this as well and they were surprised that it makes no difference. Everything has to be done (except taking the NCLEX-RN exam again) again. Majority who did this, never proceeded to endorsing to NY anymore and many just gave up and just endorsed to another State. Usually in the Tri-State area. Majority that I know that has successfully given eligibility are those that have applied directly to NY; they just stuck with it no matter how long it took them

the important thing is if you really want to work and stay in ny, you will still apply for reciprocity even if it will take a while. the important thing is if you took and passed the exam for ca you do not need to take the exam again if ever you want to work in ny.

once you have passed your nclex and you are licensed as an rn in the state of ca, your next goal is to find out if the papers you have submitted in your previous application for a ny license will still be valid. this can be done by calling the ny state board of licensure.

once you are in the us, this will be a local call and not costly.

There is no such thing as reciprocity between licenses, it just does not exist. Only the NCLEX exam has reciprocity, you must go complete an application for licensure to NY, there is no application for reciprocity, you must meet all of their requirements. The only thing that you do not need to do is rewrite the NCLEX exam.

Reciprocity is what it was called before the NCLEX exam came into play and each state actually had their own exam. If your score was high enoough in your state, then you did not need to retest in the other state with their exam, this is what we called reciprocity.

Thread moved to the International Forum as it is specific to working in the US. And if there have been issues with you getting permission to sit for the exam for NY, you still need to go thru the same requirements and have the CVS completed as well before they will consider issuing you a license for NY. So you are not saving anytime by going thru another state if that is where you wish to work.

Hi... may I know what year you graduated? I read on one of the website (forgot the website!) that June 2006 board passers have longer process in NY. They tend to be more strick on this batch...

Oh regarding your visa screen... With the retrogression on going... you know what will that sentence end!

california does not issue a license until the nurse is in the us and ready to begin work as a ssn# is not issued until then. if applying to ny after writing the ca exam, they still need to go thru the license by examination process and then just have ca submit the passing results to the bon in ny. but the bigger issue here is that there must be a cvs that is submitted by cgfns, and this is where their delay seems to be in the first place. ny will not even look at their application until they have the cvs in hand, and if more than a year, there is a problem with something on it.

any nurse that goes thru ca for initial licensure and wishes to get a license in another state, cannot use the endorsement procedure as their is no license issued to endorse in the first place.

It is not NY that is strict, but CGFNS that issues the CVS. And NY will not do a thing without the CVS being submitted first.

Have you e-mailed NYSE and asked abut your status?

yes i have. and i am asking about my status. and they have not yet replied. i have emailed weeks ago i think

E-mail responses from State BONs usually takes weeks but CVS plus the the time NYSE evaluates the CVS report and gives the eligibility are infamously long and even before what happened in June 2006. Some people even reporting more than a year while some were able to successfully applied to another State, passed the NCLEX and still no word from NYSE and consequently abandoning it and just endorsed to a nearby State such as NJ and PA and still no word from NYSE. It happens. Some are lucky and get their eligibility on a reasonable time.

Has the PRC actually sent notice to them that you passed the NLE in June? This is what is holding things up more than likely, can almost bet on it.

Without that being done, you will still be waiting.

That is going to be more important to them, but have you found out if they received the required documents that they were waiting for now? That can hold things up as well.

Average wait time to get the CVS done is eight months when there are no delays, much longer if they exist.
