wasnt sure whether to post this in agency forum or here but since it is peds-specific decided to start here. I am signing on with a couple of peds homecare agencies for private duty-type cases. I am doing this because (1) I love working with special needs children, and (2) I really need flexibility since I am in a MSN program.
So far I have talked to Interim and Maxim. I live in a rural area of NE GA and they have cases relatively close to me. Actually Maxim has cases closer to me but I was not terribly impressed with the person I spoke with on the phone. He was very evasive about salaries and the ballpark figure I finally got out of him was much lower than Interim. He was evasive about other details as well.
So far I have gotten a better feel from Interim but someone I met recently who is the mom of a special needs child was singing the praises of Maxim and actually referred me to them.
So maybe it was just the person I spoke with?
Anyway, feedback on either/both or others would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm not familiar with either of those agencies. I had a choice of a few here and I do work for the one with the worst pay! Prior, I was hired at on agency and it switched hands and names twice before the final buy-out by my current agency. Samething with another agency I had worked for (2 different interviews, 2 hires, but I worked for 5 agencies??) So I decided to stay with the one that had the longest history and best reputation among nurses and families. Unfortunately in the current nursing shortage, I've seen a huge drop in standards and quality of care... It seems like most of the problem is my local office, though, the company as whole has a good rep and nurses and family members at neighboring offices seem satisfied, but the ones who work for my office and a neighboring office notice the difference in quality, pay, and recognition. Maybe that's what you're seeing, too?

Have you looked into Pediatric Services of America (PSA)? I just went to work for them doing center based care (medically fragile children) but they also have home health that covers the state of Georgia.

Hi,
Just thought I'd mention this --I live in rural NE GA near Athens and I work for Interim which is based out of Atlanta and I love it! I also have a special needs child that makes my job easier. If you have any specific questions feel free to email me.
PS. I will be going on vacation March 29th but I will check and answer any questions when I return.

Do you have to use an agency? In Wisconsin I do pediatric home care and use a billing service to bill for me. Don't have to pay a middle man.

In almost every state you need to a special license to do that, please check with your Board of Regulations. And if you are billing the state there, then you can almost bet on it.
In wisconsin I had to get a medicaid ID number (which was free) and that's all I needed. In Georgia do you need a special license?

I worked for PSA to start with and wasn't impressed with the way they ran their office. Scheduling was a nightmare and the pay was definitely on the low end of the LPN scale around here (Pensacola). I now work for Maxim and absolutely love it. They run a tight ship, they have great support, and the pay is much better. In my case what makes it even better is that one of my former PSA patients is now with Maxim so I get to see my little buddy again!

I'm thinking of signing on with Maxim as it seems PSA doesn't have very much work here in Pensacola. I really like PSA though, and have heard some bad things about Maxim. Anyone know what Maxim pays for peds home health in Pensacola? Thanks!

Do you have any local based peds home care offices? i live in oklahoma and receive stuff from maxim and interim all the time in the mail and it just seems they are way to impersonal? if thats a word. dont really know what i am trying to say here. But we have one that is actually based here and there office is local and i would feel much more comfortable with something like that.
