Question about the nursing program.

I was talking to a fellow classmate today and she told me that a friend of hers in the nursing program gets up at 4:30 A.M in order to be early for clinicals.

My question is, what time do you all start your clinicals at? Does it start at 5:30 and you are there at 5 AM? She stated he was in an accelerated program, though.

I'm just curious how normal that is. I'm just wondering because that seemed rather odd to me to be there at 5 A.M and finish at 5 P.M or so.

How many days a week are clinicals usually?

Mine are two days a week as well.

The program I attended had clinicals from 3p-11p. I worked 6a to 3p so I would have to leave work early to make it to clinicals on time.

Thank you for the responses!

For my RN program when we had clinicals, usually one 12 hour shift per week. We did not have clinicals every week until close to the end of the program.

My LPN program was six hour clinical days, sometimes up to 4x a week. It feels like there was a lot more clinical time during that program.

If you become a nurse plan on working 7a-7p or 7p-7a. I work 7a-7p so I am up at 0430 on my work days. I have a heavy bag and kettlebells in my house and I do a workout first thing. Then I eat and shower and leave for work 0610. Arrive at 0630 and start prepping for the day.

One thing my coworkers on nights love when I work because I am always early/on time. When you become a nurse you will learn there is nothing worse IMO than late coworkers. It is the ultimate form of disrespect because a person is essentially saying "my time is more important than your time". And as an RN you cannot just up and leave.

When I start my day getting there early gives me time to prep and also I like to get the night people out because they are tired. As I hope they get me out at the end of my shift because I will be tired.

Being a nurse..you will learn about managing sleep deprivation. When I was in college if you had told me I would be getting up every day at 0430 I would have said "impossible". May as well get used to it now. Good luck man.

Indeed! However, after the nursing program I would love the 7 P.M to 7 A.M shift. Natural night owl here :)
