Hi, I would like to know if anyone has ever or know of anyone who has ever got into the Ivy Tech Community College's nursing program with a low GPA but high everything else?

I am sort of in this situation and was wondering about my chances. My GPA is 2.8 but I have A's in my (AP 1 and 2) except psychology, I have a B. My GPA dropped from when I got my first degree there.

I am just wondering how this will affect my chances.

I am also a CNA.

I'm confused. How do you have high grades and a low GPA? Are you saying you have high grades in pre-nursing courses and a low GPA due to other non-nursing courses?

Previous degree dropped OPs GPA.

OP, IvyTech is very competitive. Most successful applicants have 3.7 and above. I'm a (years ago) graduate as well as former instructor. I asked the program chairs of 3 locations, and those are the stats they gave me as current. They advised that you reach out to your local campus for ideas on how to improve, as each campus evaluates points slightly different. Good luck, and hope this helps

I am in the Nursing program right now at Ivy Tech. I was accepted with low scores. It's based on a point system. If you check the Ivy Tech Nursing website and read the Nursing Handbook , it will explain the admission process. The points are based on your grades in Psychology, Anatomy 1, English. Then they add the points from your TEAS test. You also get an extra 5 points for being a CNA. The highest total points you can get is 160. In my program the acceptance scores were like 113-135. Did you take your TEAS yet? Any questions let me know

Yes. I thought I answered. I already have a degree which is why my GPA is what it is....

Thank You

Apply,  only retake clssses if time and money is not an issur.

It really depends on how many apply.  Nobody in my cohort which was many years ago had anything lower than a 130 I think.  It is very competitive in many areas.  Now, if you are in a more rural area it might be different.  But in my area it was easier to get into a BSN program than ivy tech.  It’s so competitive because it’s so cheap for such a well respected school.
