Question guys...what field of nursing are you going into?

I'm about to start nursing school in January. And I think I'm leaning towards FNP. But I'm not sure if that's the kind of NP I want to be. Where is everyone else going to end up?

Up until last week I had been saying, "NICU for me." Now, having spent two days in the PICU with my kid, I think I might prefer that.

I've just a heart for the young 'uns and I like the critical care environment.

I remember for me I always thought I would become a nurse in the cardiac ICU. I had my rotation with neurology now I got a job offer that I accepted at a neurosurgical ICU at a level one trauma center. Hopefully after that WHO KNOWS.

I am ambitious and always want to keep learning so I may persue graduate school for NP or CRNA but I know neuro is always going to be changing I may be happy there.

I'm taking it one step at a time. Just finished my first semester of nursing school at Pitt with all A's. My goal after graduation is to work ICU for a few years and my ultimate goal is to become CRNA.

I am starting nursing school in jan 08 and already have a job lined up.

it helps that my mom is running the company, but I will be doing hospice home health care.

Currently I am an LPN in case management (for the past two years) I will have my RN completed this May. I have applied for PICU, CSICU, CCU, and the ED. I am thinking of jumping to an FNP/ACNP track, or a managment track, not sure, we shall see. Good Luck to everyone!

I am doing my preceptorship in a coronary care unit. CCU, ICU, PACU all have appeal to me.

I guess for now (since I'm only a nursing student), the options are wide open, but I feel inclined to say ER, ICU or bust! I've worked as an EMT and an ER Tech, and couldn't see myself working on a regular med/surg floor. I eventually want to become either a critical care transport nurse or an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP).

I am at the half way point in school (thank God). I am a former police officer, so to maintain my original career in someway or another, I am going to try and get into Correctional Nursing. If that does not pan out, psych would be the other possibility. After having med-surg rotations, I know that is not a place for me. I give a lot of credit to the med-surg nurses. With a 5 (or even 6) to 1 ratio, I am completely amazed how they are able to keep things straight.

Currently I'm a BSN student with a year left before I get my degree. I'm looking to get my PhD in Nursing and work with groups such as a ANA and other organizations to help further nurses politically, in particular I want to improve solidarity in nursing and help use our resources to promote healthcare reform.

No, seriously, I thought about becoming a CNS because I thought I liked differential diagnosis. Now that I'm in my second semester I'm not so keen on that.

I could do med surg, as I'm in that rotation right now and it seems fine, if a bit boring. Maybe ICU will prove more interesting. Most of my classmates want to become NPs, though I'm really not interested in that type of primary health care role.

I think I may be oriented towards research, administration, and teaching. I like reading, researching, and writing, and looking at the patient as a whole rather than focusing on specific illnesses.

But who knows. I'm still at the beginning. I certainly wouldn't have suspected I'd be where I am now 5 years ago. 5 years from now I may be somewhere I wouldn't expect...

Family NP, I spent a year in the ER as a tech and now have been a float RN for another year, I feel most drawn to FNP b/c that will allow me the leeway to provide across the life span in most clinical situations. In other NP 'specialties' if you change your mind to go work elsewhere, force you to have to go back to school.
