  1. Look into Corrections Corporation of America. They are a private correctional business that are located all over the country. I reside in Arizona and CCA is a contract facility for the United States Marshals Service. I was hired as a new grad RN, however, I am a former police officer. There are other facilities in the Florence, Arizona area as well, and I know of another individual who I attended RN school with who was also hired as a new grad RN at a different prison. Hope this helps...
  2. I am at the half way point in school (thank God). I am a former police officer, so to maintain my original career in someway or another, I am going to try and get into Correctional Nursing. If that does not pan out, psych would be the other possibility. After having med-surg rotations, I know that is not a place for me. I give a lot of credit to the med-surg nurses. With a 5 (or even 6) to 1 ratio, I am completely amazed how they are able to keep things straight.
  3. That is unbelievable! That is the reason that I would want to get into psych nursing.
  4. What is your opinion on these "Accelerated" programs? I am in one here in Arizona and it seems that the school does not really care whether you graduate or not. If you don't, you get to retake the class (for an additional $6000 of so). It appears that they are strictly in it for the money. When you ask an instructor for assistance, they look at you as if you are steeling money from them. Any suggestions on how to deal with literally having 5 classes at the same time, and then a clinical at the hospital too? Last I checked, there were only 24 hours in a day! Oh yeah...I am one of the lucky ones, I am not working!
  5. That is funny!! I have tried several times just to get in contact with someone at that school, and NEVER did I receive a call back. I have tried OVER 10 times!!
  6. I have literally tried to call them more than 10 TIMES!! Never did they attempt to call me back. So whatever....I went to Apollo instead!! I figure that if they can't even be courteous enough to return a call, how will they be when you get into the school?!
  7. University of Wisconsin at Green Bay is another school that allegedly will accept transfer credits from Apollo. Click here: http://bsnlinc.wisconsin.edu/ I have tried SEVERAL times to get in contact with University of Phoenix, but as usual, they NEVER return phone calls. As far as getting ripped off...Time is money and money is time. If people want to wait for the 2-3 years to BEGIN an RN program, more power to them. By the time they get into the program, I will hopefully be making $$$.:trout:
  8. Being a former police officer, operations manager, and now a nursing student, I smell a HUGE lawsuit. You (nor any other personal for that matter) should ever feel necessary to tolerate this. I am AMAZED that the Director and Administrator responded in this manner. :trout: As far as working in a small town, I would consider relocating to a larger facility. The larger the town, the more knowledge the hospitals will have on losing the budget to a lawsuit!! Good Luck!!
  9. Man...I thought I was one of the few who noticed the attendance policy taking a dive!! You are right about the rules changing daily. I guess it is who you know...Not only do the rules not apply to certain individuals, they know that the school wants the $40,000, so, they get away with it. I am currently looking into other schools at this time as well. The ONLY reason I am here is because of the waiting lists everywhere else. I do admit that I am becoming frustrated with what I am seeing. I know that there are other RN students getting P.O.'d as well...:trout:
  10. Give them a call: 602-864-1571 It may begin the third week of July, I am not quite sure. E
  11. I am not sure on the number of questions. 60 seems to be sticking in my head at the current moment. If you have no problem in MATH then start reading test questions on paragraphs that are looking for "The meaning or the Title of this paragraph should be...." The student that failed the NET passed the MATH but failed the READING section. YOU HAVE TO STAY FOCUSED.
  12. Know your math WELL!! Also understand reading comprehension. I would advise taking the math class first before taking the NET.
  13. I am in the 1st semester at Apollo. It is a great school. Everyone there seems to care, and help. As far as the tuition goes, try $39,500 for the RN program.
