I never even HEARD of grains until I started studying for NCLEX - we don't use it in Australia, only metrics. It seems very old fashioned! My books say 60mg to 1 grain.

We used both. 1 grain of Tylenol and Aspirin is 65 mg and the rest are figured in 60. We had better figure Tylenol/ASA at 65 per grain or the dosage question is wrong. Good luck everyone!!

1 gr is 60-67 Mg, I usually calculate 60 first and then 67, give two answers.

I have a licence to work as a Pharmacy Technician..Usually it is all approximation..Say for example:

1 pint = 500 ml

16 ounces = 1 pint

BUT

1 ounce = 30 ml and 16 ounce = 480 ml

So this also implies to your question about 1 grain = 60 ml

We were taught that it was either 60 or 65, but for our purposes in school, we would use 60....

Contradiciting that however, we had our checkoffs for oral medications, and were given an order for Tylenol grV and all they had in the drawer was Tylenol 325mg....so the only way that it was possible that could be the correct medication was to use 65!! Grrrrrr...could we make things MORE confusing than they already are?!?!?

Normally 1 grain = 60 mg, except in the case of aspirin, then 1 grain = 65 mg
