Question about Cussing on the job.

Nurses Professionalism

Published

As a Nurse has anyone ever raised their voice and cussed at a CNA when you feel they crossed the line with you. If so how did it play out and did you get in trouble with the BON? can you lose your license for Cussing at a fellow coworker?

What a work place. Sheesh. You certainly didn't handle it well, but at least you are out of there.

No. Never.

That kind of behavior is detrimental and can lead to unsafe environment because the cna may be afraid of you and not report things. Same way a doctor cannot yell and/or cuss at you when mistakes are made.

just read your other post. Doesn't sound that bad tbh. I can understand your frustration. Not like you called her a name or said something threatening.

I think profanity is low class and unprofessional in the workplace. Whether or not you are angry.

I work both in hospital based medicine as well as prehospital based medicine. I'm also kind of 'old school'.

If you make it personal enough to raise your voice to me and swear at me, then I'll make it personal enough to put your big head, ego and all, straight up your rear end.

Be professional. Treat people as you want to be treated.

Be gone with that 'crossed the line' crap. If they need coaching, then coach them.

You obviously see yourself as a leader, so be a leader, not a ruler.

doubt it....Can't say I've ever cussed at a coworker, but I've cussed out a few patients, family members, and doctors.......in my head

I cuss all the time at work. I can't say I've cussed out a CNA, but I work at the prison...so it's all good. Just apologize to the person and move on. If you get in trouble, so what. If they fire you for that, I wouldn't want to work for them anyways.

When I was a CNA I probably worked with over 100 different nurses over the years. I never had any of them swear at me. In front of me? Yes, but never at me.

Not that I didn't deserve it sometimes, but they were all professionals.

Unprofessional. I would write you up and fire you if you did it again.

I am not all offended at dirty words---- but in the context of lack of respect toward the patient, coworker or another--- you would be out of a job if you did not understand this basic premise of being a professional on the job.

I would be concerned about your interpersonal skills after reading what the CNAs did. Why is your relationship with them so bad? When you work with people long hours you have to be able to put that stuff on the back burner and get along. It makes it hard on you, them and everyone around if you have poor relationships with your peers. Just my two cents.
