Question about Concealed Weapons Carry

U.S.A. Florida

Published

OK, there probably haven't been many questions on this topic before, but I do have a legitimate concern.

I'm currently in school for my pre-reqs to become a nurse, and I am looking into getting my concealed weapons permit. Do you think there is any reason to believe that having this permit will affect my ability to get into nursing school, or to become a licensed RN once I'm done?

I respect all personal views about having a concealed carry permit, but I would appreciate if responses could be geared only towards how this may affect one's career as a nurse.

Thanks so much!

Sam

Like everyone else has been saying, there should be no problem with getting your conceal-carry license. I have had mine for 6 yrs now. Just make sure that you abide by the hand gun laws in your state. I carry a tarus 357 and also have an armalite-180b. Good luck in nursing school and enjoy your 2nd admendment right (the one that says we have the right to keep and bare arms)

I guess it would be why are you getting it? Always remember, your pistol is not to threaten the aggressor, it is to insure your survival. "It is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6" Concealed permits do not show up on BCI checks.

I am Canadian and am shocked to read of nurses discussing carrying guns. Nurses affirm life, and guns are for killing. I know the US is a gun-carrying nation but I never thought nurses would be involved with them.

This is not an arms debate - please stick to the subject at hand - thank you!

Now you know. We have the right to bear arms, but hospitals have security for a reason, so i dont carry mine inside at work. Mines only secured inside my car.

But nurses do carry guns also, anyone whos eligible and have the proper documentation can carry one

In Summary, a concealed weapons permit shouldnt be an issue whatsoever. Just keep it to yourself and keep proper documentation with you at all times

I'm sorry to burst your bubble about nurses carrying guns; however , many of us work in huge cities, we're walking to & from our vehicles in the middle of the night, driving home on dark roads, etc. Trust me, I'm sure the majority of us never have, & hope will never need to, draw a weapon in self-defense on anyone!!!

It doesn't affect your ability to get into nursing school. I have been licensed to carry for over 10 years and never had a problem. Just make sure you are safe always remember safety 1st

Just checked back on this thread after a couple of months, and thanks for all the positive words!

To add some blanket responses:

1. I am not considering taking the gun to work with me once I'm working as a nurse. There are good arguments for having armed nurses, but I think probably even better ones against (ref. one post about your glock falling out of your scrubs when you're doing CPR, checking at the door of the radiology dept., getting stolen, etc.)

2. I have received official training, and intend to continue to receive it so I can really get to know MY OWN firearm once I've purchased it. My uncle is a Police Lt. and also has a firearms training business on the side, so lucky me I get it for free :yeah:

3. I do not intend to broadcast the fact that I have a carry permit to anyone outside my inner circle of friends and family. I even went so far as to make up this alternate screen name so no one I do actually chat with on here will know anything about me... :smokin:

Thanks again all!
