Question about becoming a CRNA...?

Published

I am interested in becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. I have a couple of questions about pursuing this career option.

I know some colleges require you to have 5+ years working in the Acute Care setting before you will even be considered for the program, but can this experience be excluded if I am already an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner?

Also, what are some good schools for Nurse Anesthesia? I have read USNews and News Report's list of the best, but I would prefer someone who has first-hand knowledge.

Thanks. Please do not be rude, as I am just trying to find out some important details.

I have the same question as you in regards to first hand information on which CRNA schools are the best. I have read a few other posts about how people were kicked out for unfair reasons or physically abused by DR.'s and the professors just said turn the other cheek. I find that information alarming and unprofessional to say the least. I want to know what schools have good pass rates that have appropriate learning environments and of course are accredited.

Find a school you are interested in and ask these questions. Ask how many started and finished over the last several years. If they act like they are hiding the information then be wary. Most schools require 1-2 years critical care experience. Some allow PACU and ER and some do not. Do your research to find your best fit.
