Air Force folks please tell me I'm not crazy....
I just kinda take for granted the fact that I know how to wear my ABUs. We get tons of memos about gortex, fleece, watch caps etc so I've never had to refer to the AFI. But today we started our bag drag drills and there was some issue taken over the color socks we should wear. I have searched high and low through just about every AFI supplement on epubs and can find NOTHING about ABUs. Crazy, yes or no?
My socks are not the issued dark green (those are just terrible). Instead I have some brownish-green Smartwool socks that are great and they match my ABUs perfectly. No one has checked my bag yet and I'm not overly concerned, but I'd like to bust out some regs if a certain NCOIC tries to be a smart mouth.
Come on carolinapooh, I know you can come through for me. LOL!
You need to make airline reservations from Alabama to your base before you go to COT - you're not going to have the time to get it done beforehand. Also, the longer you wait, the more the ticket is going to cost you.
I am sorry... What? I won't have time to do it beforehand?
I am sorry but I don't understand the bit about uniforms. Are either of the 2 sets I posted legit? You are saying DONT get the 100% cotton ones but the 50/50 are FINE right?
I know that it's an outside source... all that matters is if it fits the reg!
I'm slightly confused about travel now. I thought that the TMO made my airline reservations from home to COT and then from COT to home so I could drive to TX. Is that not right? Do I need to make my own? My recruiter said he arranged it.also, still no orders. can't arrange TMO household. It is now 18 days away. I am sure I need to fly the day before as their is a time difference and with flight time, I don't think I'll get anything that gets me there in time on check in day.
I'm getting really worried.
I know you and I talked, but I'm just answering for someone else who may have the same question.
TMO is the Traffic Management Office - all they move is your stuff. You and your recruiter will arrange air travel for you.

The cotton ones are not authorized for anyone who is not a fireman. All you can wear are the 50/50 ones. This is why I said if you go to a uniform shop on base you can't buy them unless you're a fireman - they're the only people whom I know are permitted to wear it. They can't wear the ones with polyester in them because in certain situations the fibers in the uniform would melt.
The uniforms satisfy the reg - but you are not authorized to wear them in the first place. They only satisfy the reg for people authorized to wear it. (And again, there's no reg for the ABU - there's only notices from the AFPC on its proper wear. The ABU isn't mentioned in 36-2903 as of yet - which I still find odd.)
I must have been tired when I typed that one sentence (and no one else really caught it, either). What I mean is you need to get your tickets now because you won't truly have an opportunity to do it there. And if the airline had to contact you regarding the reservation, they really wouldn't be able to. Plus, the longer you wait, the higher the price of the ticket.
I still stick in my bag for bag drag, but I pretty sure what I can and can't away with.
Not questioning your ability nor your motives; I think anyone who sees the posts regarding a supposed "summerweight" uniform (which I know the AF keeps claiming they may or may not release to everyone) may need to be aware it's not something you can pop into Clothing Sales and buy, since the internet sites that do sell AF-sanctioned uniforms may sell anything to anyone without regard for regulation.

No big deal...I am still waiting on the purple force, so we can stop having pilots make medical decisions...l:lol2:
Ok, I got out before ABUs and have not looked into uniform guidance yet. So here are my questions. How many set of blues, ABUs do you need for COT and is anyone inspecting the amount that you have? What about service dress and mess dress. When are these worn during COT? Perhaps the COT site spells this out for me but I haven't looked yet. I was hoping to come to COT with 2 sets ABUs and 2 sets of blues plus I already have the pt uniform (unless it has changed). And get the mess dress and service when needed during COT. Or is COT to demanding without down time. Last military school I went to was NCO academy which is a huge difference from basic. Perhaps the COT experience is somewhere in between with different objectives cirriculum.

That is the list of what you need at COT. You can get it all there. but I like to be well prepared and ready to go, I have it all. $1,600 ish. (plus $100 for alterations and sewing on of rank and tapes). The mess dress has a specific fit. I read the reg and got it. Some people are choosing to get it at COT. It is the most expensive of pieces on the list.
What pray-tell do you think is wrong with them??? LOL! Those pants are great! I look forward to working Mondays just so I can show them off.
Yeah, I'm such a complainer, I know. :smokin:
I love the fact that they make my butt look HUGE. (NOT!!!!) They want a fitter force? FIX THE DAMN BLUES PANTS!!! Immediately on Mondays we'll all look ten pounds lighter!
