Water consumption at COT
I didn't realize they did this in COT like they do in basic. So next question is, do we really run every day unless weather does not permit? Is the run in formation. Just curious how close physically this is to basic.

waiting, Air Force Nurse Corps
Carolinapooh, So nice to be able to talk to someone on this forum with knowledge about what is ahead of us. Thanks for all the info. I was somewhat confused about possibly not being assigned to the ED but whatever happens ... I am just excited to be a part of the Air Force again. So I will go check out the service dress requirement and see where I stand. I don't remember that they were different but that doesn't mean that I am correct. I just want to put those uniforms hanging in my closet back to use, if possible. I could donate them to Airmen's attic.

carolinapooh, So I just want to clarify that even if you go in with an ED identifier it does not mean you will be assigned in the ED? I will be going to Nellis. When do you find out where you will be working in the hospital? I was required to get ACLS prior to commissioning because of the identifier but I already had PALS, and TNCC. I didn't realize that I potentially would not work in the ED following COT, but I knew that later in my career that it could change. I wanted to wait for the mess dress (maybe loose a few more lbs in COT) but I guess I will be getting everything before hand. Do you know if prior enlisted were able to take stripes off of service dress and reuse? Mine was just 6 months old when I got out. midinphx, Sorry you don't get to relax yet but I wish I was getting ready to move now! At least I know not to expect orders in a timely fashion. lol. Good luck I hope it all comes together for you. How far in advance does TMO need orders to schedule your move?

Question about AFI36-2903
Ok, I got out before ABUs and have not looked into uniform guidance yet. So here are my questions. How many set of blues, ABUs do you need for COT and is anyone inspecting the amount that you have? What about service dress and mess dress. When are these worn during COT? Perhaps the COT site spells this out for me but I haven't looked yet. I was hoping to come to COT with 2 sets ABUs and 2 sets of blues plus I already have the pt uniform (unless it has changed). And get the mess dress and service when needed during COT. Or is COT to demanding without down time. Last military school I went to was NCO academy which is a huge difference from basic. Perhaps the COT experience is somewhere in between with different objectives cirriculum.

I agree, for nurse applicants this is a new problem. Like I stated in an earlier post, three years ago boards were every month and selections much faster. Depending on the base TMO is not always efficient but orders usually come out earlier than 14 days before you PCS anywhere so it is managable. Midinphx I am glad you have options but hope you don't have to rely on your ex. Thanks carolinapooh for spelling it out for us.

Not being able to pack before Cot! Yuck! Very difficult situation and yes very much like the Air Force. I was in for 14 years. Can you just keep your place with the stuff in it until you get through COT? Wish they would get better at this! Sometimes, or many times, just like the real world the Air Force does not have alot of extra personnel to pick up the extra slack. They have been cutting back too, but not on nurses. Wish us all the best of luck. Mindinphx I hope you get it worked out. I have known others that had friends pack them and it was not the best situation. Congrats on commission and when you get through all this stress it will be worth it. I had heard that orders were slow but doesn't give you much planning time and sometimes TMO needs 30 days to schedule. Wish I had some better idea of how to help.

Really, At one point the Air Force was really in need of nurses, about three years ago. They had monthly boards but since then recruiting restructured and one recruiter has several zones or states to take care of. There have been a huge amount of applicants because of the economy. The shear amount of applicants is unprecedented. I think that the recruiters are understaffed, overwhelmed and backlogged. Board results are slow and the wait will drive an applicant crazy. I was told that the wait was slow upfront but I still became quite irritated during the process. So for those of you still waiting, believe me I understand because my family and I went through the same. But the Air Force is in a state of flux as with all other branches. And even though recruiters, like all other airmen, are replaceable when someone who is ahead of a program goes on leave or decides to retire it can cause temporary delays and does. That said, it is my impression that the Air Force will not turn down a fully qualified nurse but the wait may be excruiating. Hang in there. I am now waiting for commissioning. From my understanding it will happen in May (I will not hold my breath). Hope everyone hears something soon, because being in limbo is maddening.

gerrib83, I got my acceptance letter April 19 from the Jan 2010 board. Results were very delayed. So I doubt that you would here back from the last board yet. Also, if you met the age requirement when your package was submitted I don't believe they will disqualify you based on age. Hang in there. The wait is maddening! I have Aug COT.

I found yesterday that I was accepted. Yea!!!! One question, does anyone know how long ER nurses are typically at one base. I was not sure if it was longer than 3 to 4 years because of the speciality.

Air Force Nursing Bonus, Student Loan Repayment
i too have been told that i am accepted and have not seen anything official and would really like to get that acceptance letter. however, i was also told that cot dates could be as far out as mar 2011 and i am prepared for the wait. i am prior enlisted air force and hope to retire with the air force. i don't know what your goals are but the air force has many benefits and provides a rewarding career. i know the wait is excruciating because i feel it also.

I am just impressed that you actually got an acceptance letter so soon after you found out that you were selected. But I don't think AFPC has worked out all the COT dates yet and that is the hold up with the whole system. Can't hurt to email your recruiter every two weeks or so just to check in and get an update on the process. Your recruiter is probably just as ready to see you go as your are to go. I guess we all just have to hang in there.

COT and running
OK, this is just plain funny!! How long do you run before you stop laughing?
