pursuing other licensure after nurses license revoked

I just need some input here from anyone who has any information that could help my friend. Basically she surrendered her nursing license, doesnt matter why, but now wants to pursue licensure for diagnostic medial sonography. Does anyone know if having a professional license revoked would prevent you from pursuing and obtaining other licences? Any input would be appreciated.

Only know CA. In CA, yes it will prevent you. DCA, Department of Consumer Affairs....you can't surrender one health professional license and next day want to become a physical therapist. DCA also umbrellas over PT licenses and they will see the surrendered license. Must clear up the other to get the other. Good luck to you.

I'm 99% positive that Florida is the same way. Surrender of any license under the umbrella of the Department of Health precludes you from getting another license that they also control. I suspect that it's like that in most states. Otherwise I do believe that some of us that are being kicked when down by these programs just might tell nursing to take a hike and go do something else with our years of education that are otherwise being wasted.

Alternatively I can see where if a person did relinquish a license due to addiction etc. issues and is really not safe to practice, they should not be able to segue into say, Radiology Tech. I do wonder however if such a person could not even go get say a cosmetology license?

If she appears on the federal registry (which mostly affects Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement) it may follow her. It probably does matter why she surrendered - not for us here but to answer the question. She needs to check with the entity that licenses sono techs to know for sure.

My experience is that in FL and NC (I've been in both programs since I moved) they have language in the contract that one cannot pursue licensure in another discipline until the nursing license is cleaned up. I have a friend that pursued her ARNP while in her contract. She passed her boards. She has a clear and active RN license and is almost done with her five-year contract but needed to appear in front of the board and have IPN vouch that she is in good standing before she could get her ARNP. She did do it, and I believe having a clear license was the key.

Good luck... this whole thing can be maddening and frustrating but I can see their point - I wouldn't want a practicioner who gave up their nursing license because they didn't want to be in a contract just go do something else in healthcare. People would be job-hopping and possibly putting the public at risk.

I think it may be difficult, but, I would check with the state your friend is trying to gain employment/licensure in.

One thing I know for sure is that license revocation places you on the OIG exclusion list. I am trying to have my name removed now. It is not a difficult process (so far) but can be lengthy.
