LOL. I know what you mean lol. Im in Lake Mary. Which part of Orlando do you live? Will you be doing the ADN or BSN program? Do you have all of your pre reqs?

Can some of you who r in the program now please tell us what books we r gonna need for august if we r taking intro, fundamentals, and pharm?

i am actually in Miami, Fl. i will be doing my ADN because i cant possibly leave my fiance for 22 months!!!! we just got engage. I have most of my prerequsites.

Hey everyone. I Just got to PR and had some issues with rental car companies  . I wanted to visit the schools but it will have to wait till monday. Has anyone found affordable housing near the school?

I got you message but I don't have the book list handy. I mailed it to someone that will be starting in the fall. If you just give it some time someone will probably post it. Classes don't start for 5 weeks so there is time. Plus the book list I sent was for 2010/2011 and although they probably will not change the books you don't know. Adult Care 1 and Adult Care 2 are supposed to the the same books but some of us had another prof for Adult Care 2 and different text books were used. You may be better off waiting until classes start.

FYI when you buy books on Amazon and you are buying them used you want to look for sellers that ship internationally. When it comes to shipping with FedEx and UPS PR is considered intl but not with the USPS. So you will be able to put the book in your cart but when you get to check out you will get an error stating unable to ship to your destination.

Also another great site to use for books is half.com and ALL their sellers are required to ship to PR. So you can buy any book listed there and sometimes they are cheaper then Amazon. Oh but keep at least one card with a stateside adress if you can. I changed my address to PR and I could not use that card on half.com.

There are a lot of weird little things like this that drive you crazy at first but then you get used to it. You will run into these random things from time to time.

I don't think this is against the rules because I am NOT looking for a roommate. I got an adorable 1 bedroom a block from the beach. It is not cheap but I want to be on the beach my last year. I am giving up my apartment which is a two bedroom less than 1/2 mile from the school. It is 750 a month for a modern 2 bedroom, 1 bath and has a washer and dryer in the kitchen. My landlord is so awesome. If I don't reach her in person she calls me back within two hours and has someone at the apartment within 24 hours. I have never in my life had a landlord that was so responsive.

And some of the things I called her about were things I caused like washing rugs in the machine that then clogged the machine but she fixed it on her dime.

Anyway I will be out by the end of the week. I don't think it will still be available at the end of July but if anyone is coming into town before that and this sounds like something you are interested you can contact me. If it is after I leave I can put you in touch with her. This has been a great apartment but I no longer want to have a roommate and I want to be at the beach.

hehehe....This thread has been rather quiet lately. I think we're all trying to crunch everything in, visiting the school, registering for classes, etc. I look forward in meeting everyone! Maybe before school starts, like the Friday before, maybe we can all meet up and grab dinner or drinks or something so we can get acquainted before classes start? Just a thought though. :D!

(p.s. i hope this post isnt against website policy).

Just wanted to say hello, I currently live in Orlando but will be attending the UMET (Cupey) ADN program in Aug. I went in June to visit and get my credits validated from Valencia CC; and it put me ahead of the game. If I am financially able to I will transfer over to the Bilingual BSN program. If not, I will take the NCLEX, return to Orlando and obtain the BSN online. I wish all of you the best and hope to read stories and comments about others experiences in Puerto Rico.

FlRican1, I'm from Fl and I will be attending Umet bayamon only because I know I won't be able to do the courses in Spanish. I will be moving in July to cayey but by the end of the year hopefully near the school! I've applied to four jobs so let's see! Good luck!

Good luck on the job search. I find it very hard to gauge the employment climate (although I know that I won't get paid anything close to what I am use to). Some people say "ohhh your going to be fine your bilingual", and then what I see with my eyes is an employment crisis. I wish you the best and if you have any advice on that subject I am all ears. I have not lived on the island since I was 7, visited alot but not lived. If I hear of any opportunites I will try to share it with you since I believe I have to have 10 posts to PM.

FYI, I will be living close to Bayamon in the Toa Baja area with a family member myself. If you have any questions about the area just send me a message.

I sent you a PM you may not reply to it but I THINK (not sure) you can recieve them. Looking for a job sucks. I have family that MAY be able to help me get a job but I know I will be getting paid less ....A LOT less lol than what I do now... ugh it sucks but I cannot live off loans only. Look into Hotels in El Condado.... The Hilton hotels have a few job openings. And a lot of people in PR are bilingual lol sooooo it does not help much for us.

Hi all,

I'm currently a student at la inter. I've been trying to figure out if the CA board of registered nurses views Puerto Rico as international for the purposes of applying to take the NCLEX through them. In other words do we need to do the transcript validation etc. that they require of international students. I'd rather apply directly through CA rather than Wisconsin because I want to get it all sorted out while I'm still in Puerto Rico and not have to worry about transferring and contacting people here once I've left. I can't figure it out from their website. Thanks!

PS

The school offers relatively inexpensive (I think $30/night) short-term housing on campus. It's called Casa Carmona and you can talk to E. the counselor for the international students program about how to apply for it.
