Anyone out there have info on the school in Arecibo, PR? It is a 24 month program that begins in August.

I'd love to hear anything, thanks.

Question to DesignerMommy: So, if I went to Inter for the ADN program, will I get my license and title as a Registered Nurse????? I really am looking forward to having my BSN but quite honestly, I am merely looking for my RN license. I am not particular if it is an Associates, Bachelors or what not. Since I already have my bachelors (in sociology), i feel like i've already accomplished that goal of getting my BA! My next goal is to be a RN! So, as I mentioned earlier, if I merely go for the ADN program, would I still be able to come back to the states as a Registered Nurse and work at a hospital with only that???

Well I'm not designer mommy but I do know that a lot of hospitals prefer their nurses to have a BSN now. You may be able to find a job but its gonna be more difficult. There are a lot of BSN nurses out there looking for jobs and having a difficult time finding them. I can only imagine an ADN nurse. But then again it depends on where you live and what kind of nurses the hospital in your area hires. Here on my island the university only has an ADN program so the hospital here hires a lot of ADN nurses. So I am going to inter for my ADN. Check to see if the hospital you want to work at hires ADN nurses before you decide on which course to take. Best of luck to u.

And yes u will be an RN with an ADN after you pass the NCLEX-RN.

Yes PerlGirl, as StCroixFutureNurse said you will have an RN if you just do the ADN. However, as StCroixFutureNurse also said you will have a very hard time finding a job. I have 3 friends in CA that have been looking for a year. Pounding the pavement and there is NOTHING out there for new grads with a BSN, with and ADN it is 10 times worse. All my friends in CA are about to start looking out of state.

StCroixFutureNurse I may be going to you island when I finish here because they need nurses and a friend said I am pretty much guaranteed a job. Then I'll go back to CA because I miss it.

Hi WorldTravelingYogi,

When do u graduate? Maybe we both will get to work together. Hopefully the hospital is hiring by the time we r done. Right now there is a hiring freeze. One of my friends who is a nurse there told me that. She said one can apply but as far as hiring, it may not happen right now.

Really. I know someone that just got hired and she starts sometime this summer. She is still in Puerto Rico but is from St Croix.

Yeah we will finish about the same time. I'll finish in May with e the BSN and you will finish in June with the ADN. I can take the NCLEX after I finish peds at the end of this month. So hopefully I will be done with it by the time a graduate. I know in StCroix they allow you to work for 6 months without having taken the NCLEX.

Well that's good news...I'm glad because I was kinda worried about what I was gonna do if I couldn't get in there after I'm done.. How is the program so far? And how much have u paid for the program to date?

Oh okay, Thanks to both WorldTravelingYogi and StCroix! I am in fact from CA so you, WorldTravelingYOgi, saying that your friends are having difficulty finding a job is worrysome. I hope they arent in SoCal kuz thats where i'm at...this is home! i'm hoping my friends mom kan help me land a job at her job because she is an RN but i dont know if they really care much about that. WorldTraveling, so you've been at the school for a year and you kan already take your NCLEX??? And once you pass then Wah-la?!??? So for the next year at Inter, you would not even have to necessarily worry about studying for the NCLEX, just for your classes??????????? Thats so cool if thats the case! One less thing to worry about!

I am planning on getting my ADN and then going to the states to do the RN-BSN. I'm probably going to do it at () because you can do it at your own pace, it's completely online and it is SUPER cheap. It's also accredited and the school that I want to get my FNP degree from accepts their degrees. They have the program set up in 6 month blocks. You pay about $3,000 and you complete whatever you can in 6 months. You can finish the whole program in that time frame if you have enough time to dedicate to it. I read on this forum where a few people got their BSN in TWO MONTHS!!! Some have finished in 4 months and some take the entire year that WGU has set as an anticipated time frame to complete it. That is the best option for me without a doubt. Right now I am relying on my MIL (who isn't in the greatest health) to watch my four children. I need something that is online so I don't have to worry about babysitters. I also love the idea that I can finish super quick if I dedicate enough time to it. Plus I'm dying to get back to the states. Technically I think I could even do the WGU program from here in PR, but no thanks LOL The only downfall to the program is the GPA thing. People who are GPA snobs or need a high GPA to get into a specific masters program shouldn't do the program at WGU. They base it on "pass" or "fail" and if you pass, you automatically get a B, so you get a 3.0 GPA. That is completely fine with me, but it makes the school a bad choice for some.

It's true that it's tough to find a job with only an ADN, but it's all in who you know and where you look. If you don't have connections, you should try to look in rural places. They say that usually there are plenty of nursing jobs in rural areas.

PearlGirl, WorldTravelingYogi has only been at the school for a little over 10 months. It takes about 11 months for those in the accelerated program to get their ADN if they take Peds over the summer which is what she is doing. I will say it again--I am soooooooooooooooooooooo jealous! I want my ADN now!!!!!!!!!

I really didn't add it up. But Jeb posted here recently how much his tuition was so far and it is really the same for all of us unless someone decided to take extra classes.

The thing is that you may know people but if the hospital has a hiring freeze like many do then it doesn't matter who you know. And most of may friends are in the San Francisco Bay Area looking for work but they have expanded to the whole state and still no luck.

Yep I am going to go WHERE EVER I can get a job for one year.

Just to clarify I am taking peds right now in the June summer session but I am not stopping at my ADN. One more year to go. But I can sit for the NCLEX after peds if I feel ready.
