Pt. on Peritoneal Dialysis...Private Rm or Not?

I recently attended a peritoneal dialysis class in our hospital. The instructor told us that PD pts. should be in a private room for risk of infection - generally they are admitted with infection, anyway; or can be roomed in with another pt with same diagnosis and getting PD.

We normally admit pts on CAPD; if there's a private room available, it gets assigned to the pt. If there's none, pt goes to a 2-bed room; room is not blocked and ended up with a roommate.

I need some clarification. Are they supposed to be in single room? Thank you.

I would think they should be admitted to a private room. I haven't seen CAPD is a long time since I switched to the ICU, but those that I did see were always in a private room.

I was under the impression that JCAHO mandates that all dialysis patients must be in a private room when hospitalized.... ?
