Specialties Psychiatric

I work part-time in a residential pysch facility. I love my residents, especially the one that told me "I had a good mind, but the Lord took it away." Bless her heart. She is the sweetest patient.

Adult medicine is my specialty but I have to say, psych people can be very intriguing. I am learning a lot about psych. Very interesting. You can all relate!!!

Until last year I also worked part time in a psych facility, and I agree that sometimes pts say such sweet and heartbreaking things.

:chuckle

Poor thing. That's sad. It would be better to be totally unaware of what you WERE, I would think. I'd rather not know any better than to realize what had happened to me.

I'm terrified of my psych rotation. You've given me a new perspective.

I am almost finished with my psych rotation. Trust me when I tell you, I was terrified. Give me a pt in a full code and I will be ok....this was totally out of my element. I have to say this rotation has been by far the most facinating. All I can say is that I have lived a very sheltered life. I am so thankful for my mental health and my ability to function in this world as I please. I will probably never forget some of the clients I came across in this rotation. I know that psych is not going to be the field of choice for me, but if placed in a situation that I must deal with a psych client, I feel so much better prepared. I also have learned a new way of communicating which has helped me deal with others. I have diffused many problems quickly due to my new found communication skills. This has definitely broadened my horizons as a future nurse and as scared as I was .... I now feel like i can handle anything:lol2: !!
