Hi everyone, I have to write a paper about any topic for our Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing class. I would like to ask for suggestions on interesting topics. Thank you so much for your input!

How about: The Effects of Anti-Psychotic Medications on Children.
I've done clinicals at a children's psychiatric facility. It blows my mind that four and five year olds with developing brains are taking these powerful medications that were designed for adults. Investigate the long term effects.

I agree with Ashley about anti-psychotics in children. My son is on a single drug and a very low dose at that, but I know many parents of young children who are on multiple anti-psychotic drugs/antidepressants. I have been very cautious about what drugs I would let my child take and would do alot of research and ask for other professional opinions.
Other ideas:
Patient rights in inpatient psychiatric facilities
Polypharmacy with psychiatric disorders,

Ooh, mental health. My favourite!
Suggestions:
1. Dual diagnosis patients/comorbitities
2. Violence against people with severe mental illness
3. Mental illness and street drug use.
4. The effects of alternative therapies on QOL in patients with mental illness
5. Investigate the use of antipsychotics and their effect on pts' QOL.
6. Investigate the efficacy of community outreach programs in urban cities (do they help keep people out of inpatient hospitals and in the community longer?) Look at ACT model, rehabilitation programs, etc...
7. How does exercise effect anhedonia in patients with schizophrenia?
I have a ton of papers too, so if you need any help with research let me know!
Cheers, Michelle

I think looking into PTSD symptoms and inpatient treatment is a good topic with a lot of information out there.

I'm sorry... I can't get past the typo in your title.
I have a Quiet Riot song swimming through my head right now.

Try this. No one else will do this, I guarantee. I started to do it in my class, but all we ended up having to do was watch a movie featuring a character with mental issues and do a quickie presentation on it.
So here it is:
Law enforcement response to emotionally disturbed persons (EDP). That's a catchprase that's been around the last few years. It deals a lot with mental health, and emergency and psychiatric staff often encounter officers and EDPs. It's actually quite a big deal, and training in that area is still minimal for officers.
Here's a quick Google example from a credible source.

Note the sentence on page 3, "Police have always been key front line responders for mental health emergencies."
More examples off Google.
http://www.policeone.com/edp/ PoliceOne.com is HUGE. You can't post on it or submit an article without being vetted. I frequent this site.
