Proud Moms

Published

I thought I'd start one of those fun threads. Does anyone else have a Mother/Father/Family member xyz that just brags and brags about the fact you are a nurse? Share your story!:yeah:

Specializes in infection control, peds, home infusion.

my father tells anyone who is in earshot that i am a nurse. he constantly tells me how proud he is of me, and how my late grandmother would have been so proud (she was a nurse, passed away when he was 19- i never got to meet her). i am pretty lucky to have such a great dad.

I just graduated from college, so my parents and my two aunts that are nurses are all super proud of me, but they and my friends love to tell anyone who will listen that I want to be a midwife, so I get to field questions from all kinds of people..."What exactly is that?" "Is that like from the Middle Ages or something?" or launch into their own birth stories. It gets a little annoying sometimes having to explain what I want to do and why, but I appreciate their support.

no but everyone brags about my brother being a fireman... no one seems to care that i made it through nursing school at 20 and being a single mom of a 2 year old at the same time. but oh well. he can have all the glory. i been doing this for 6 years now.

Well, I think this is quite an accomplishment! You should be proud.

....those fireman get all the credit!:angryfire

Specializes in ER.

I just graduated in May and anyone who comes in contact with my grandmom she has to tell them that I am a nurse, no matter is they know me or not. Everyday I see her and she hugs and kisses me and says "There's my little nurse", I mean it's cute and all so as much as I hate it I just keep thinking to myself she isn't going to be kicking around too much longer so I let her say and do what she wants, even if it means constantly BRAGGING!!!

Specializes in Cardiac.

My parents mostly are happy that I am going to college and have a plan.

But, They are much more proud to say that I am going to school for nursing than my previous major (medical office administration) lol.

Though they always throw in that I'm going to eventually become a PA or NP..,..no pressure right??? lol

Specializes in Operating Room.

My parents are proud of the fact that I'm a nurse. My mother actually says that she knew I would make a good nurse before I did. She was surprised that it took me so long to figure it out!

There are lots of firemen and nurses on my Dad's side and my late maternal aunt always wanted to be a nurse and never made it there..I'd like to think she'd be proud of me.

Specializes in ICU.

my mother-in-law always use to call me for a medical opinion on the most minor things. (my specialty is critical care, shock/trauma).....when i tell her i don't know, she use to say......you're a nurse and don't know anything.......i laughed.....and would always say.....when you get run over by a bus, call me.....she eventually realized how ridiculous it was.:p

My mom is justed crazy excited that I decided what I wanted to do! My grandmother is a trip about it. She's a retired nurse herself. More than the praise, I enjoy having something to relate to her about. We are very different and I think my career choice has brought us much closer. :dncgbby:
