BUT....i always seem to hear or read what nursing isn't instead of what nursing is, and it sometimes makes me feel like we don't give ourselves enough credit for what we do.
You are doing God's work, and that takes a very special person, be proud he chose you :)
..just a thought :)

Yeah rock on! :)
It's so true. We need to pat ourselves in the back once in a while. As I always say, nursing isn't just a profession, but a noble vocation as well.

I am very proud to be a nurse and it seems that when I tell others that I am a nurse, they think that it is a good profession and have a lot of respect for nurses. They will tell me about family members they have that are nurses or their experiences with nurses. That the nurses are the ones taking care of the patients, not the doctors etc. Yes, I am proud of my profession and am glad that I went into nursing, even though it has been very hard for me at times.

I'm not religious, but it's nice to know that someone appreciates what I do.

I am an excellent nurse.I tell myself this frequently. This statement and the LORD'S mercy is what keeps me staying a nurse. I AM PROUD TO BE A NURSE. Nursing is the hardest and most rewarding profession I have encountered.GOD be with each one of us.:redbeathe

Oh brother.......some of these replies are funny. Nursing is a hard profession but by no means is it the "hardest". Come on! And yeah everyone loves to say how great a profession nursing is and how much respect they evidently have for us......but actions speak louder than words and most people couldn't nor wouldn't do what we do, espeically for what we are paid compared to other technical/highly educated professions. FAR FROM IT! For as much responsibility as nurses have they are paid crap and treated like crap. I mean honestly we have as much responsibility as MD's in a lot of ways yet we have a 5th of their education and training and make A LOT less than they do. But when your patient goes downhill who is at the bedside dealing with it at a moment's notice? The sleepy doctor who you just woke up? NO. The RN or the rapid response nurses. Who spends hours with a patient monitoring their change in condition while the doctor barely spends 5 minutes with them? The RN. Who also has to act like a janitor, secretary, relationship/family/personal counselor??????? THE RN!
I'm two years into this profession and if it wasn't for the crappy economy I'd be getting the hell out and would NEVER recommend this profession to anyone. I wish I never would have switched majors and wasted the money I did. I'm lucky to have a job and make decent money AND make a difference in people's lives but come on.......in this day and age nursing hasn't really changed all that much compared to decades past. We still need a doctor's order for Tylenol and ice packs! By the way everyone says how great of a nurse I am :) LOL
Since you are so not into nursing. I pray you fine something that you will be so into.

I'm proud of the fact I make a difference in people's lives; my patients trust me with their lives....and I take that seriously. I do what I do because it fills me up emtionally, not because I dream of making big $$$$. Nursing IS a noble profession.
