  1. I'd like to see hospitals make flu vaccinations mandatory for doctors???????? LOL Yeah right! That would never happen!
  2. People who work in the medical profession should be informed enough to realize that big brother and big pharma do not have the people's best interest in mind. Baxter patented their vaccine in August of 2008 and the first real outbreak of swine flu happened in March 2009. Stats like this are just the tip of the iceberg. Nurses and everyone else need to do their research. Look into the Gardasil HPV vaccine, look into Gulf War syndrome and the theory behind military vaccination, research the low rates of Austism among Amish children who don't get vaccinated. Instead of swallowing what the government, doctors, and worst of all your nursing manager tells you, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH and make an informed decision. Quit relying on the media as well. They are bought and paid for.
  3. None of these posters know what they are talking about because none of them have your problem, judging by their replies. IGUANA MEDS scrubs DO NOT HAVE TALL SIZES and none of their scrubs are going to fit any guy that has a 33+ inseam. I know I'm 6'5 and wear a 36x34 jean size/pant size. I'm not as skinny as the OP but I've found the best bet is Street Scrubs. Google them. Dickies and Landau and a few other companies make cotton bottoms in long sizes but you'll never be able to find a top that matches that is long and not baggy or gigantic around the waist and chest. Buying scrubs for tall guys SUCKS BIGTIME! Just one more reason why I hate this profession! LOL :)
  4. Oh brother.......some of these replies are funny. Nursing is a hard profession but by no means is it the "hardest". Come on! And yeah everyone loves to say how great a profession nursing is and how much respect they evidently have for us......but actions speak louder than words and most people couldn't nor wouldn't do what we do, espeically for what we are paid compared to other technical/highly educated professions. FAR FROM IT! For as much responsibility as nurses have they are paid crap and treated like crap. I mean honestly we have as much responsibility as MD's in a lot of ways yet we have a 5th of their education and training and make A LOT less than they do. But when your patient goes downhill who is at the bedside dealing with it at a moment's notice? The sleepy doctor who you just woke up? NO. The RN or the rapid response nurses. Who spends hours with a patient monitoring their change in condition while the doctor barely spends 5 minutes with them? The RN. Who also has to act like a janitor, secretary, relationship/family/personal counselor??????? THE RN! I'm two years into this profession and if it wasn't for the crappy economy I'd be getting the hell out and would NEVER recommend this profession to anyone. I wish I never would have switched majors and wasted the money I did. I'm lucky to have a job and make decent money AND make a difference in people's lives but come on.......in this day and age nursing hasn't really changed all that much compared to decades past. We still need a doctor's order for Tylenol and ice packs! By the way everyone says how great of a nurse I am :) LOL
  5. Hi there, I was wondering if anyone can give me any advice on moving to OR and working as an experienced RN? By the time I move I will have had 3 years experience working on a progressive care/stroke/tele unit. I'm a 30 year old male, ACLS certified, have my NIH stroke certifications, am an ADN, and will hopefully finish my PCCN by the time I move. I have heard mixed opinions on the OR nursing environment as of late. I've heard as long as you have experience you can find jobs. Others say it's very hard. My wife (she grew up in Oregon) and I are thinking about moving to the Sherwood/Tualatin area. What does an experienced RN make in OR? My base pay right now is around $28/hr. I work nights so I get night shift differential on top of that. My nursing experience in CA has been great. I make good money, the patient staffing is great, co-workers/managers are awesome and even in this economy I can pick up extra shifts and make more money. How are the staffing ratios in OR? I also heard some of the hospitals like Kaiser are unionized? I'm looking at Kaiser, OHSU, and the VA. Possibly, Salem hospital in OR. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Guys I was just wondering if you think it's normal to feel overwhelmed the first year of nursing school? I really am enjoying my classes and did well my first semester. However, I get nervous when I think about the fact that I'll be an RN in a year and a half (it's a two year RN program). Sometimes I wonder if I'm where I'm supposed to be? Am I behind? Am I ahead? Am I supposed to know that yet? My clinical instructor says I did a great job in clinicals etc. I guess it's just weird to think I'll be an RN i.e. a professional responsible for people's lives and well being a year and a half from now. As a graduate nurse do you just get thrown into a job and have to "figure" it out or do you get a little nurturing those first few months on the job?
  7. Well every Navy nurse I talked to has spent a lot of time on a ship. Definitely not my bag. I'm going for the Air Force Nursing corp once I get my bachelors if I decide on military nursing. Either that or Army. No way I could spend 6 mos on a ship. The military is not for everyone. Even as an officer you'll have to do PT. Just remember if you can make it through what you're going through now everything else will be downhill. I'd say hang in there. Every military nurse I've talked to regardless of the branch loves it.
  8. Oh and by the way a good Chiro can make very good money. There are a lot of bad ones out there though that give the field a negative stigma. Atleast you can be in business for yourself. Chiro is a really neat field. You can incorporate so much in providing care for your patients. Nutrition, massage....i.e. like you mentioned.
  9. Why aren't you following through with Premed out of curiosity. Chiropractors have worked wonders for me and a good chiropractor is an amazing and very important practitioner of healthcare in my opinion. However, you will not find many people in mainstream healthcare i..e doctors, PT's and nurses telling you that. It's really sad to hear physical therapists talk about chiropractors. The former has never done anything worthwhile for me. However, this is coming from a future nurse who is a big proponent of alternative medicine. I think holistic nursing is a wonderful field of nursing to get into. I like it because it allows you more often than not to go against the grain of western medicine which for all intents and purposes is heavily based on drugs and invasive surgery unfortunately.
  10. Truer words have never been spoken. Being out of shape is one thing but having bad hygiene is another. That's just laziness. A bigger, juicier butt on an out of shape woman is much sexier than a beer belly I'll give you that. :)
  11. BBing= Bodybuilding not BlingBling.
  12. Not at all. That was an "in general" statement.
  13. True! I see a lot of out of shape men too, but more overweight married women.
  14. Sorry I will take the RN from my handle.
  15. Most women let themselves go once their married. Kids is just an excuse.
