I need to some input in what to say in this question?..

HOW PEDIATRIC NURSING INFLUENCES NURSING?

Hello everyone... please any nurse educator who can help me out with this questions..

for a major project..

- Define the concept--- "PEDIATRICS"

How does the concept influence nursing ?

How does nursing influence the concept?

How does the concept influence health care?

How does health care influence the concept?

SO LOST IN THIS ONE..please please

Same assignment as your May 31st post? Have you spoken about this to your instructor? What angle are they looking at? You are going to find that in nursing school you are given these assignments to develop your deductive reasoning/critical thinking skills. Nursing uses different critical thinking skills than you are accustomed to using. Knowing how to research things and where to go to get them is an essential part of being a nurse.

This is an exercise in developing a care map/care plan.

Ask your self......what is pediatrics? How did the development of "Pediatrics" as a specialty influence the nursing profession and vice versa? How does having a pediactric specialtiy influence healthcare?

From your other post it was suggested by llg..........

If you don't understand the questions asked by a homework assignment, I suggest you review your course materials and talk with your teacher. He/she may be looking for a specific slant.

But ... that said ... I would start by defining "pediatrics." What is it? What does it include? What are the particular characteristics of pediatric nursing that set it apart from other types of nursing? -- not just the ages of the patients, but how the fact that our patients are children effects our approach to them, the services we provide, how we deliver those services, etc. (e.g. the need to include the family, always consider developmental level, provide play opportunities, establish different relationships with some of our patients, etc.) You might want to think of the cultural differences between pediatric nurses and nurses in other specialties.

I hope that helps you start thinking in fruitful directions.

What have you discovered so far. Tell us what you think what you have fouind out.....start the conversation.:D

I think pediatric nursing influences nursing in that the people who are in this field have some specific characteristics ,set of goals and responsabilities. Pediatrics influences nursing in that pediatric nursing not only take care of the minor but also they are primary educators to parents and caregivers.

so far i have this..but not sure if it is right

and thanks.. but i do my homework i was just looking for a professional opinion.:)

i have all the other answers.. but in this one my professor does not want us to focus in pediatric as an specialty.. she wants us to look at it as pediatric nursing.. and impact that has in nursing.

For the records i am not in nursing school yet.. I am taking a prerequisite class

What is pediactrics?

Pediatrics: The field of medicine that is concerned with the health of infants, children, and adolescents; their growth and development; and their opportunity to achieve full potential as adults

What is a pediactric nurse?

Pediatric nursing is from intensive care of a newborn baby with breathing problems to looking after a six-foot tall adolescent whose leg has been broken in a soccer match. The reason there are pedi nurse speciality is because children are not just mini adults: their bodies (and minds) work in different ways. The onset of symptoms can be sudden and extreme. Because children are still growing, the impact of the illness or injury on their development has to be taken into account. And because they are young, they may be more scared or confused by what is happening to them. That's why they need pediatric nurses who understand their particular needs.

Children have parents and brothers and sisters who are all involved in different ways. Pedi nurses work closely with patient's families as part of the caring process. One of the most striking features of pediatric nursing is how often you share your nursing skills with others: the child's parents or whoever would normally look after them at home. Your job is to give the child's carers the confidence and ability to carry on with their caring role, knowing when to stand back and when to take-over if necessary. It requires a special set of attitudes and open mindedness to people's different ways of relating to their children.

Pediatric nursing can sometimes involve managing distress. A rich mix of emotions often surrounds child illness such as panic anxiety, anger, powerlessness, and guilt. You'll play a key part in helping families come through their crisis.

Now what do you think.....

How does the concept influence nursing ?

How does nursing influence the concept?

you obtain a professional education in part to know what your thoughts are and how to express them. if that's not happening yet, nothing we say is an acceptable substitute.

Thank you all for your responses... i spoke to my professor and she told me to focus more in trends or researches in pediatric nursing that had an impact in nursing as a whole... so in my case i talked to a nurse where i volunteer and she told me to look for traumatic brain injury and cooling protocol. also inhalation of nitric oxide for pulmonary hypertension...

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?
