    Starting school in 3 weeks!!!

Hi Jen, I will be a freshman come the 27th August, 2001. I am so so anxious since this is my first time in college. I will be attending the University of South Florida in Tampa and I know that I am in for some hard work but God will lead me. I will have my daughter with me. I am anternational Student from Jamaica, hence, my tuition is far more than those students in-state. Therefore, at my Orientation I am going to start asking about jobs on campus which will help me through the next three four years of studies. Good Luck Jen and I know you will enjoy it.

    Anything Positive on Nursing ???

Fiestynurse, Is nursing that bad? Others have told me that they have made a lot of money and these people just start working. I am a bit confused here but that wont stop me from doing my nursing course. I think the pay depends on where you work and the hours you do. Tell me if I am wrong. In Jamaica nursing does not pay much and the work is very hard but in the Us I heard that it is far better as the benefits are attractive. So tell me is this for all places in the US? Or for just where you work? Thanks for your response.

    together we can

Janleb, I have learnt so much since I log-in to this forum that I think I am ready to take on the world. I am going into this with the intention to do well and this is how it is going to be. I want to take the 4 years to do my BSN why? because I have plans to do a PHD. I respect all nurses of all categories because they all have to go to school to be what they are today, and there are always space for improvement, so one has to just do what she has to do. I really have to put in my two-cents. Have a great night guys.

    how hard is nursing school?

Hi guys, What is the difference in gong to a University to do your prerequisites and doing it at a community college? Does it take less time to do it at a University?. The University of South Florida has a Nursing College which will accept me as soon as I have the required credits. Am I lucky or what? I dont know much about the school system in the US as I have lived in Jamaica all my life. Please tell me if I am taking the right route. Another thing is, does working on Campus reduce the tuition? I am not qualified for a scholoarship just now because I am an international student. My tuition is very high just now, almost 9600 per year and I want to finish my 4 year course but I need to know if the campus job pays enough to cover the tuition and rent. Can anyone help?

Laura I am planning to do my rerequisites at the University of south florida starting august of this year and do the summer courses in order to finish less than two years ,then go to the nursing college at the same university and finish up my BSN so I guess I will be through in four years with everything. Tell us about yourself.

Hi, I am Annmarie from Kingston Jamaica and will be starting my pre-requisites for the nursing college on the 27th august,2001 at the University of South Florida. I am not quite sure as to what this program entails but I do know that whatever comes I will have to do my best to enter the nursing college. All my life I want to get a BSN and I know that this is the right time for it. OH! I forgot to tell you that I am married with two kids and also works as a Custom Officer in Jamaica but I will be going to the University full time come august. My kids are ages 8 and 2, boy and girl respectively. My Husband is an Aircraft Engineer and he has decided to take care of our son in Jamaica while I take my daughter with me to the states. It is my intention to work in the hospital in the States at the end of my studies or if the immigration permits me to work during my studies to get a feel as to what is going on in this field. I wish you all the best and it is nice to know that we can always express ourselves here without fear. Have a great future!!

    how hard is nursing school?

Laura you are so right. Iam from Jamaica and will be doing my prerequisites for nursing college at the university of south florida in the fall and am looking forward to do good. I am a mother of two children and will be taking care of my two-year old while in school but I wont let this discourage me because I know what I want and I think I am focussed. What I need to know is after doing the prerequisites if it is possible to take two years to do my BSN and where do I go from there in getting a job in the hospital in the US. I love nursing and from I was a child this has always been my first choice. I respect a person who works hard to achieve his or her goals and "lift my hat" to you as a mother who is so assertive and hardworking.
