  3. LBCC Fall 2020

I've been wondering... How are we supposed to take the TEAS if most testing centers are closed? Cypress wants new and returning applicants to take the TEAS and submit their scores with their application... It's insane to require that, especially duri...

  5. Hi! I'm planning on applying to 2 nursing programs in the spring: Golden West College and West Coast University. My question is, are ASL interpreters allowed at clinical sites with me, the deaf student, as an accommodation per the ADA? What else shou...
  6. LBCC Fall 2019

Ah, congrats! It means you'll be able to replace whoever drops out of the program or declines their acceptance! You have to go to the orientation, as the letter says, to retain your alternate position.

  8. LBCC Fall 2019

Honestly, even if you’re at the highest tier, you have pretty low chances of getting in (3-5%). It’s honestly pure luck to get in

  12. LBCC Fall 2019

I see a letter coming in for me today as well! AAAAHHHHH!
  13. I understand your concern. However, I've done very thorough research and found that there's an electronic stethoscope that amplifies bowel/lung/heart sounds to the point I can hear them quite clearly. Percussion, though... I'll have to think about ho...
  14. I never said that the interpreters would do the assessment and other nursing care tasks on my behalf. They're only there for communication between pts, families, and other healthcare staff. Also, please read these: BREAKING: Deaf Nurse Wins Court Cas...
  15. No, I haven't. However, I've spoken with ASL interpreter agencies who specialize in medical interpreting, and they say whoever will be my future employer will be required to pay the agency for a full-time interpreter based on the budget that the agen...
  16. Yes, I would. My employer would pay for all my interpreters, under the ADA.
  17. Golden West College Nursing Spring 2018

    What did the letter say?
  18. Learning Sign Language?

YES YES YES!!! As a deaf person, it makes my day when anybody on my healthcare team knows ASL! Go for it!
  19. Cochlear implants and stethoscopes?

I have profound senorineural hearing loss from meningitis in both ears too! I've been trying out the Thinklabs One, which is basically just a stethoscope bell that has electronics in it. It can wirelessly connect to CIs via a streamer, it works prett...
  20. Spring 2017 Chat

Hi! I'm Nathan, and I'm taking Microbiology and Lifespan Development Psychology. I'll be applying to 4 nursing programs so I have a good chance to get into at least 1.
  21. I'm pretty annoyed. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum! ANYWAYS. I'm Nathan, 20 years old, bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss due to meningitis antibiotics. The state I live in, California, has a department called "Department of Vocationa...
  22. I WON! I had my VR meeting today, and after a long talk, my counselor finally decided that if I get into the nursing program, he'll change the plan on my file to nursing. Oh, and he'll pay for my pre-reqs under my current plan!
  23. I'm also nearsighted (legally partially blind), which is my qualifying disability for SSI, and through that, I'm in the Ticket to Work program. The department of VR, however, sees my deafness as the disability that qualifies me for their services.
  24. Whoa. That was VERY helpful! Thank you SO much! I thought I was the only one with this issue, but apparently not! :)
  25. Luckily, my hearing aids are DAI compatible, which means I can plug them into a stethoscope and ONLY the sound from the stethoscope will go through my hearing aids and be amplified so I can hear them. The only problem is... Right now, everything soun...
