    So frustrated.

My admin is saying that I -have- to find face masks. I’ve found sites selling them for around $25 for 50. They said it’s too expensive. I’m about to cry from the frustration. I told them I cannot find them. They’re on back order and no one knows when they’ll be in stock. “We’re running out and we need to have them.”

For all staff and students. I don’t agree with it, but people aren’t listening to me

Great. I’ll look into that. I found the state protocol for temperature checks. Face mask, face shield, gowns and gloves. Where are we suppose to find all of this??

    So frustrated.

Well, they’re telling me to look at grocery stores so I don’t think having an account is an issue . I don’t imagine Walmart takes POs. Tough times.

    Temps at the door?

The nurses have had to come up twice a day since school closed to check temps. They want a nurse doing it. We have 11 schools and 3 nurses. Unless they delegate temperatures, they’re gonna have to hire more nurses. Win for me

    So frustrated.

I’ve tried McKesson, SNS, MacGill, and school health

    So frustrated.

Oh, I have. They told me to check grocery stores and hospitals suppliers.. even though I’ve told them that I can’t order from a hospital supplier. I’ve called grocery stores to get prices and amounts, but they’re too expensive. I feel like I’m wasting my time doing this because I know they won’t pay those prices.

    So frustrated.

I think what makes me so upset is the administration basically telling me I have to come up with these masks. There is no other option. I’ve told them continuously that my hands are tied. I have no clue when these items will be in stock. They keep telling me that I have to find them.

It’s all so frustrating. I have no clue what to do.

    So frustrated.

Unfortunately our school district can not afford thousands of cloth masks.

    Temps at the door?

I assume they’ll want temps taken here. I sure hope not by a nurse.

Working from Home During COVID-19 Shut Down

If you’re working from home during the shut down, what are you doing? I don’t have access to e-school (our charting and information program). We have to be “doing our jobs” from home.

    Is anyone essential?

My super deemed me essential.. so now I’m at school taking temps of staff. Anyone else?
  14. SchoolNurse91

    Is anyone essential?

Nope. I’m paid if I’m here or not.
  15. SchoolNurse91

    Is anyone essential?

I’d rather not be here... I have to drive an hour to take temps for 20 minutes.. then an hour back home.

If your school is closed re COVID19, what is your role

We just closed Also, superintendent sent a letter home stating a mask should be worn before going to a clinic or hospital for fever, diarrhea, loss of appetite, sore throat, runny nose. Is this CDC recommended? Am I missing something??

    School activities

I'm sorry for all of the questions. This is my first year in charge... We had a competition located in our school district today. A student fell, hit her head. Nothing serious. Secretary calls, asks for a nurse to evaluate. We find out this student isn't a student in our district. She's here for the competition from another school. I'm assuming we don't have authority to treat these kids? Obviously we would step in if there was an emergent situation.

Interesting Read- Wouldn't Now Be a Great Time to Have School Nurses?

My district would be absolutely lost without the nursing staff.

If your school is closed re COVID19, what is your role

Our state HD has advised us to not screen or answer questions about it. We are to give a hotline number.

    Another face mask post

We have a student who is coming to school with a mask on to "prevent the virus." Parents are freaking out.. they think we are allowing a sick kid into the school. Do you guys allowed healthy students to wear masks? How should we handle this? The only time I put a mask on a student is if they are sick and a parent cannot come quickly.

    Face masks

So, my superintendent asked me to buy face masks. I've looked... everything is sold out. Do you know of any places that have them in stock?
  23. SchoolNurse91

    Face masks

We have about 10 boxes of N95 masks. Why? No clue. I didn't order them.

    Credentials

In my state, a school nurse is an RN that has a bachelor degree and a teaching certificate. You are not considered a school nurse without all three. I'm the only RN in district. We have two LPNs, too. They can pretty much do what I can, aside from 504, IEPs and IHPs... although we do not do IHPs in our district.

    Gabriel Fernandez Docu-Series on Netflix

Someone did call 911. They said it wasn't an emergency and had him call the sheriff's office. They did nothing. I don't think the teacher could have done anything more. We could get charged for not sending the child home.. ask me how I know . The only time we could keep a kid is if CPS or the police department told us to.
