Case Study: Sick And Tired, Seeing Things? You Might Have Anemia

Wow! Very interesting and informative! Wouldn't have thought this would be the cause of her hallucinations! Thanks for sharing. Well written article.
  2. I keep looking for the next installment!!!

    So over it!!

This reminds me of one of my pet peeves on the flip side of the coin: calling the NICU the nursery, and the NICU nurses: nursery nurses; as though all we do is feed and hold babies!

The 'Q' Word During a Full Moon

    Congratulations CalicoKitty!
  5. So many I could choose from in my 39+ years. Can't say which is my "worst" error, I keep remembering different ones as I read through everyone's posts. I'm in NICU, so everything is on small scale. Most of these memories are from decades ago. I must ...

    Crisis of confidence

Just was in the same place after 39 years of nursing. Got professional help, and it made all the difference. I'm back to work and doing well with renewed confidence and not hating everything.

    Tattoos in the workplace

This is your answer! This is a very wishy washy policy that you can't win with if your management wishes to enforce it. If you wish to work at your present facility long term (provided that manager stays, and if not, the replacing one is like-minded)...

    documenting a chart check?

No chart checks since paper orders. However, in the EMR we "time mark" recent labs and notes, and are flagged if there are new orders, new lab results, late meds, etc; so we can take care of them.

    Relocating from Texas to California

My best guess would be your license would expire in 2019, then you would do a regular renewal that would not expire for 2 years.

Who is planning to retire in a few years?

Planning to retire February 2019. Just 50 more shifts!

    Nurses with fibromyalgia/cfs/similar conditions?

There aren't any. There are medications for symptom relief.

    Nurses with fibromyalgia/cfs/similar conditions?

I have fibromyalgia, diagnosed in the late 90's about 20 years after I became an RN. My best advice is to pace yourself, be aware of the amount of energy and pain you have and reduce what you do accordingly. You won't be able to do as much as those w...

    Fibromyalgia, Anxiety, Depression - Help!

I also have fibromyalgia and have had anxiety and depression. Rotatating shifts would be awful for my fibromyalgia. Night shift is less than optimal for fibromyalgia also, but you might find it better than rotating and your employer might allow that....

My sister lover her surgery center job!

to break contract or to not?

It's not easy to get a job (as a new grad) in my area (CA) without 2 years of experience. You might want to hang in there for at least that long. Maybe by then you could transfer to another department. A lot of L & D's want previous experience in...

Ever forgotten to feed a baby?

I've had the dream about a patient not being assigned to anyone for a whole shift and we discover it at the end of the shift! My worst nightmare (work related) was that I wasn't working but giving my dad a tour of my unit, got to the ECMO room and th...

    New grad bedside nursing disappointment

The first year of nursing is very difficult. Every day is a new learning experience in some way, and stressful. Beyond that, ICU may not be your niche. It's way too early to give up. Share with your nurse educator, mentors, manager that you are strug...

    Midwife vs. NNP

One thing to consider is job availability. Here in the US, at least in the part of California I live in, there are many more positions for CNM's than NNP's. So you might want to think about areas that you would like to live in, or are willing to live...

    Fibro and Sleep Apnea

I've been a nurse for over 38 years (working all that time). I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue in 1989, and Fibromyalgia in1998. I've been on meds for the fibromyalgia since shortly after being diagnosed for the fibro. That has made the difference...

Drug urine test after 12 hour shift

I've had a positive pre-employment urine drug screen that came back positive (it was sent out and took nearly a week); I was shocked! They sent the same urine for more extensive testing at a different site, and I was cleared, based on my prescription...
