Employers' Background Investigation (i.e. social media)
It was so long ago, I don’t remember specifically. I’m thinking it was a video of the nurse saying something that was thought to be racist by a patient that saw it and made a nasty reply to it on facebook about not wanting that nurse to take care of her/her family members. It could have been a still picture with a comment. I know I saw it personally and thought it crossed a line I wouldn’t have crossed, but it was also not explicitly racist.

So Happy To Be Out Of Nursing
I’m very grateful that I retired 2-1/2+ years ago and missed all the Covid horrors. I really enjoyed my job for many years, despite the stress; but it got much more difficult the last 10 years or so, the job satisfaction gone. It was a good career overall for me. I made the difficult choice to let my license lapse this Summer. It was the right choice for me, but it was hard to let it go.

Advice please
Going into management at your former employment sounds like jumping from the frying pan to the fire. Management is typically the most overworked and least appreciated, especially middle management. As a manager would you really get an hourly pay, or would you end up with a salary (that might not be that much more than you were making before) and be expected to work how many hours the job needed without any overtime or additional pay for those extra hours. I would stay with your new and current job and give it 6 months to a year before you can really evaluate it.

What does your username mean?
I had 2 Galapagos tortoises for a number of years. They looked like big round rocks moving around the back yard. So I became Walkingrock! ?

So what have you been doing while the allnurses.com upgrade was happening????
That’s awesome! I agree that sleep problems are a big issue with fibromyalgia. I’ve been diagnosed since 90’s and definitely had it before that. I’ve been going to a specialist in LA for the last 5 years. I just got an adjustable bed, and haven’t slept in it yet, but it is very comfortable with the zero gravity, massage, etc. I think it will be very helpful. Glad to hear how much it has helped you!

I'm So Over Nursing. I would rather work at Costco!!
I’m guessing your facility is owned by physicians? That particularly increases some of the issues you speak of. You may be more comfortable in a hospital that is not physician owned. Another suggestion, maybe you could get your mojo back by transfering to women’s health, start in mother/baby and work towards labor and delivery.

The End of An Era
I’m retiring after nearly 40 years, in 2.5 weeks. I’m ready. It’s earlier than I had planned, but it is all good. Lots of changes during that time, barely resembles the same job. I’ll keep my license active for another 5 years or so most likely, it is hard to let it go!

What cure did you find for your fibromyalgia pain?

Which specialty to choose?
OR Not a lot of interaction with the patient or their family, routine, work with smaller group of same people. Surgery is interesting.

Forced to Chart using another employee name
Is there any way in the electronic charting to note that the charting is being done for you? I know with ours, we can click on a button and note the person the charting is being done for.

Roll Call - Who's Been Around the Longest and Your Accomplishments
I was fairly active on AN probably more than a decade ago for a few years, then just started checking it out again in the last few weeks. I've been working as an RN for 39 years and 5 months. That is my accomplishment, just keeping at it. Planning to retire in February. Nearly 40 years of work. I'm ready to let those younger carry on. It's been a good run.

New Grad Terrified of Choosing Wrong Job
Take one of your current offers. It doesn't mean you can't eventually get the job you want. The first year of nursing is rough whether you're in your favorite area or not. The important thing is to get some experience. I thought I wanted to work in pediatrics, ended up getting my first job in NICU, and it ended up being my niche. Of course, they are more closely related than adults, but you really don't know how you will like an area until you've had at least a year of experience. After 2 years of experience, you'll be in good shape to transfer to an area of your choice. Think of it as an extension of your education rather than your career choice.

Starting my 40th year
I think their action to your caught and interrupted feeding error is way over the top. That being your only error in 40 years is stellar; I don't know any nurses that can say that. I don't think there would be many nurses in my over 200 RN NICU unit if we were treated that way; there would be a huge turnover with people leaving out of fear and people being fired for mistakes. Unbelievable.

Starting my 40th year
Wow, you got started on your career so young!

Starting my 40th year
Takes some perfectionism to work in NICU I think, although I've seen a few that didn't seem to have it!

Which areas in hospital least physically demanding?
Telephone triage in my health system is a nightmare for nurses, very stressful. Not a lot of positions for an LC, and there is a lot of bending over and standing in that job. Just my 2 cents from my location and experience.
