  1. What are clinicals "really" like?

I have an idea of what clinicals will be, but would anyone care to share with me the "reality" of it all? I will be entering a BSN program this fall (doing final prereqs this Jan...WOW!!) and I'm wondering how they ease you in to clinicals? Or do y...
  2. Is it ok if I lurk and post occassionally

Hi! My name is Shannon and I'm NOT a nurse, but hope to be one day! It's a long story, but I had to make the decision to put off nursing school for a few years I won't bore you all with the details, but suffice it to say that I had to put my kidd...
  3. What's your most interesting/scary case?

I would imagine!! How scary to have a complication all three times.
  4. What's your most interesting/scary case?

    Did the baby make it?
  5. Those Baby Shows

Whew! I was getting a little nervous.....I'm so glad to see that a Nurse admits to liking them! I have this habit of comparing my thoughts/feelings to what the Nurses here say and I tend to get myself all worked up thinking it means SOMETHING about...
  6. i decided not to have my son circumcised-need feedback

Here's my advice, but I'm not a nurse. I have two uncirc'd boys. I NEVER touched the foreskin and I think it was a mistake. NO, I don't believe you need to routinely pull it back, but I think you should gently peek at it from time to time. I too...
  7. Was this reaction normal?

My husband has Ulcerative Colitis and takes Prednisone with flare-ups.....it is such a powerful drug. It adds weight in strange places (his jaws) and he had to begin seeing a cardiologist for uncontrolled HBP. He weaned off of it about a month ago ...
  8. I didn't know this actually happened

smilingblueyes ~ Thank you :) I wanted to say something to the effect of what you did, but knew that I wouldn't be respected for it. But your comment of "But I think if they are THAT needy, then maybe I should just feel glad that I am not!" is key ...
  9. Nurses with depression

I can't offer advice, but I just wanted to let you know that I also suffer from serious bouts of depression and anxiety....it can be debilitating (spelling??). I hope you get things worked out for yourself soon :)
  10. Moms who want to feel absolutely NO pain

    Someone actually said this??
  11. Help! Pregnant and don't know what patients to avoid

Did they tell you why? Or is this a thing of the past? I only ask because my son came five weeks early (and was frank breech) and I would have begged someone to tell me not to mop or vacuum :rotfl: OP: Best wishes!
  12. Delegation to unlicensed assistive personnel (long...)

How about she finds a new job?
  13. I didn't know this actually happened

deleted because I'm tired and saying dumb things.
  14. Are you my waitress today?

I guess this is part of me not being a nurse and not having any experience in this field, but I could imagine some sweet little old man saying this and not meaning ANYTHING by it. Waitresses help people, maybe he just meant "are you helping me today...
  15. what the heck are medical assistant schools doing !

There always seem to be something to argue about around here :uhoh21: Speaking as a consumer/patient. I have been to MANY doctors in my day (and especially after having kids) and I don't think the typical office nurse has a quarter of the respons...
  16. Nursing Student

Wow, to the two PP ~ I have an even greater appreciation for our service men & women (especially women - having a period and NO BATH!!!! Yikes).
  17. upset about title

  18. Any mods on right now?

Chiming in to say it happens to me as well (same thread as the OP mentioned)....it's happened maybe three times in the past week, but never had it happen before then??? Not a problem for me though...just wanted to let you know it's happened to me to...
  19. Experienced Nurses Only

Ummm, it seems a "decade" is about right Or so I read in another equally charming post.
  20. what the heck are medical assistant schools doing !

Not everyone is "suckered" in to becoming a Medical Assistant. Some people actually choose that line of work AND enjoy it! Not everyone is cut out to be a nurse or are capable of enduring nursing school, but are drawn to health care. There can and...
  21. Do You take your patients out for smoke breaks?

I would think as a non-smoker it would be difficult to understand what he feels going through withdrawal, but also difficult to tolerate the smoke. I know I avoid second-hand smoke at all costs....it makes me feel like I'm suffocating. I can unders...
  22. what the heck are medical assistant schools doing !

Yes, silly indeed! I'm sorry about your mom :) I would take a seasoned ANYONE drawing my blood over a "nurse only." That sentence is confusing, even for me!! What I'm saying is that personally, I want it to be quick and not hurt. Whoever can acco...
  23. Oops, sorry! Son got wrong vaccination

hotshot05 ~ I see you lurking a lot, but no updates.....what did they say at your meeting?
  24. Oops, sorry! Son got wrong vaccination

I'm not sure how to ask this without sounding harsh, but how did you not notice her giving two shots? Or preparing both legs for injections?
  25. Starting in well baby nursery

I have a question...... You all say that some places forbid using your own personal Stethoscope..... What do people with hearing aids do??
