  1. I currently work on a Neuro PCU. I had a patient, I.R. she was on my unit for some time. Came in with AMS ended up having a left lacunar infarct. All Neuro deficits resolved by day 2 of her admission. She is a pleasant woman in her 60s, currently fig...
  2. I have actually worked the OT contract now for 4 months in a row. Its definitely worth it with the incentive extra pay. My check has practically doubled and im not sure I can go back to 3 days a week lol. Most weeks you get called off or put on call ...
  3. I started my "orientation" on my unit July 31st. I am now past 5 weeks of solid orientation and taking responsibility for a 4 pt team on my own. In the beginning of my orientation my preceptor and I got along great. When I would make a mistake or tak...
  4. That really just made my day! Lol
  5. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any policy such as that at my job. Some doctors will tell us verbal orders to put in others will do it themselves when they are there. I agree with Implementing that policy could reduce serious errors.
  6. It sounds like you are an awesome preceptor. Especially if you are on vacation and are feeling relatively protective of your orientee. I will ask if she can explain more to me where I might obtain a better understanding of how and why she wants thing...
  7. I have read some stories where the new nurse puts so much blame on the preceptor. Granted, in some cases, not all preceptors are a good fit. But I believe it should be a joint effort where the preceptor and preceptee are working together efficiently ...
  8. I appreciate your insight. I do my best to seek out what I am doing wrong or what I can do better. Like i said, this woman is brilliant and I know I can and HAVE learned so much from her already. That is why I do not want to get a new preceptor neces...
  9. It makes me feel better that this happens to a lot of people where some preceptors just don't have a good matching personality fit I suppose. I just wish I could go off my gut instincts in some cases but that would then turn into me being insubordina...
  10. I am going to try to talk to her again on my next shift. I have tried a few times to talk in person but theres either not a good time or no time. I dislike texting because you can't always convey a message how you'd like to, sometimes it is interpret...
  11. RN MSN programs..

I'm curious about the extent and details of a general RN to MSN program and what opportunities become available with this degree? I'd eventually like to be able to pursue my ARNP but I am not familiar with the steps involved to get there other than a...
  12. I was wondering if there are any nurses out there that could tell me how they enjoy working on neuro units such as a PCU. I did my practicum in nursing school on the same unit I was hired on. I know most patients on the unit were mostly total care du...
  13. Moving to Florida post-graduation

If you plan on moving to Florida I'd get licensed in Florida.. Check out Florida Hospital locations they are everywhere and Orlando health / ORMC. Very good hospitals. I know FL hospital has a starting salary around 22-22.50 an hour for new grads.
  14. Keiser Orlando Nursing Program

That's awesome! When are you planning on starting the program? I graduated from the Orlando campus and absolutely loved it there. =) I'd be happy to help you along your journey there when you start if you have any questions!
  15. Anybody attending Keiser University Jacksonville?

Keiser is wonderful. I graduated in April of this year. The professors at the Orlando campus were great and if you dedicate yourself you will do great. Everyone in my cohort passed the NCLEX and has obtained a job. They will work with you on financi...
  16. Keiser Orlando Nursing Program

As a Graduate of Keiser University in April 2015 I will be more than happy to answer your questions. 1. Pros are the small class sizes, full accreditation (I have transferred my credits to UCF to begin my RN to BSN or MSN in fall), wayyyy more hand...
  17. Anyone have any reviews on the amount of alternate item format they got on their NCLEX? I am still a ball of nerves even though the test stopped at 75 questions, i know its still possible to fail at this point. I had 28 SATA, 41 multiple choice, 3 dr...
  18. My NCLEX is less than a week away!

They told me when I began nursing school in Jan 14 that trade names were no longer on the NCLEX so we made sure to study and recognize all generic med names. But granted I only had 4 or 5 pharm questions on my NCLEX, everyone is different. But yes it...
  19. JUST took the NCLEX, good pop up at 75 questions..

I used the same combo as you, VATI and the mastery app. It worked great as far as studying goes. I didn't wait for my green light as I was not required to get it for testing and still passed the NCLEX at 75 questions =) good luck to you I'm sure you ...
  20. RN MSN programs..

Yes I do have my RN and I just applied to a RN to MSN program at University of Central Florida. There's is all online as well. This University offers gerontology and family specialities for their NP program. I'm not decided yet on what I want to do a...

  22. My NCLEX is less than a week away!

I'm sure you did great! The minimum question amount for PN is 85 right? Everyone feels like they are totally unsure after finishing up but it's a COMMON feeling trust me. Lol
  23. 3.4 gpa-doomed?

Lol I've been reading you two going back and forth.. The REAL question is, does any of this even matter? Agree to disagree?
  24. 3.4 gpa-doomed?

I think no matter what shape or size it comes in, obtaining an education is better than none. It doesn't matter where, it matters what you make and what you do with the education you receive. Period. =)
  25. My NCLEX is less than a week away!

    There's over 2000 or more
