Another update to my story...... I was so ecstatic about finally getting licensed and getting on with my life but.....the hard part was still not over. I started my job search April 1, 2016, 1 day after getting officially licensed. I went on tons and tons of interviews, open houses, orientations to hospitals, etc. No one would hire me and some even told me straight up that it was because of the stips on my license. They said I was a liability. So i went through periods of depression and just wanted to survive, with or without nursing. I took a part time job as cleaning lady at a freaking maid service company. I was desperate and needed income. That didnt help me mentally because i knew my worth. I stuck that out for 2 months and then finally, December 23rd of 2016 I got offered a nursing job!!! Part of my offer was to take a $10/hr less than a regular starting RN at the facility until my stips are lifted, but I did not care. I EXCEPTED THE OFFER. I have been working now for about 3 weeks and got my first check as an RN last week. Life is getting better. I do have to check in every single morning with drug testing people and test whenever they say, but thats not to bad. I am just relieved i am finally working with an income i can support my kids with and a career that i love. NEVER GIVE UP. It was tough, very tough and tore me down several times, but i stayed in the fight and it paid off. Good luck to anyone going through this mess with the board. I hope you find your happy ending.

It is all over!!! I took my NCLEX after being out of school for seven months and PASSED IT! I got my license in the mail yesterday, 04/06/16. I am ready to start my job search and move on with my life. Good luck to anybody that reads this and is going through it. It really is a will tester and you just have to go day by day to get through it.

Hello Oca2016, I am just now seeing this thread, so sorry for the late response. I would advise you to read the BON's website about what you do and dont have to disclose. After I did my DO, i read it more carefully and it states that a person does not have to disclose a sealed case, but it urges you to make sure your stuff is in fact, sealed up. If i would have read that better the first time, I would not have put my info out there the way I did because it caused me a lot of stress, heartache and money. So just run your own back ground check and see exactly what does or does not show up and make a decision from that. Hope this helps.

yes, i mean a letter of non disclosure. All my records come back clear, fingerprints also, all clear.

Oh, I forgot to mention, YES, the BON put stips on me... they are not horrible, but they are there. I have to have my license for a year and follow all of their demands to get the stips removed after a year.

My misdemeanor was a class B for theft. I did do all the legal stuff to have it sealed up, but I chose to disclose it myself instead of it coming out some other time. I did evaluation and polygraph and now I am back to waiting around for weeks to hear from the board. I don't know if they will clear me or give me obstacles that cost lots of money to do.

Well, just to keep anybody who is following updated, I did my forensic evaluation last week and my polygraph yesterday. My polygraph was "inconclusive",whatever that means or how the board will interpret it, I don't know. It will be about a month before I hear anything, probably longer. If anybody has been through any of this before, please comment your experience and outcome. Thanks.

Im glad things are moving along for you, even though, yes, its a process. I went to Austin today, met with BON and was told I have to do a forensic eval w/polygraph. I don't even know what that is or how it works, but I drove my behind all the way to Austin from Katy, had to rent a hotel, find babysitters, etc, just to be told that. Im so disappointed, but I guess ill just keep jumping the hurdles the BON is laying down in front of me.

Hello, I first came to this site 6 months ago stressed out about the process around a declaratory order. Well, since then, I have been sent to enforcement (paid the additional $150) and sent requested paper work numerous times. I received a letter 3 weeks ago stating that the BON would make a decision about my case today, August 11, at a hearing in Austin, Tx (I am from Katy). I attended the hearing only to be told that the BON wants me to do a forensic evaluation with a polygraph. Needless to say, I am still stressed out, emotionally beaten down and drained. I graduated my BSN program this past Saturday and was really hoping to get good news from the BON. My question, concern, inquire is about this evaluation. What is it? The BON said I will receive a letter in the mail, Im assuming with the details of the who, what, when and where, but I do not know what to expect. Has anyone had to do this before? If so, what should I expect, what kind of expenses am I looking at, etc. Anybody willing to share will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have been dealing with the board since February of this year. I too only have one misdemeanor offense and the board has made it so horrible. Mine was 7 years ago. I strongly suggest being as honest as possible. The board will read the police statements and all of that. When you do a declaratory order, which they will make you do if you have not already, it clearly states to explain everything about the incident. I know that sounds stressful and it is, but I would simply explain what happened. You can include some of the details that may shed some light as to why things happened, but honestly, the board is looking to see how honest and upfront you are about the situation. I hope it works out for you. I literally met with the board today, 6 months later, and they want me to jump through more hoops. I just graduated my nursing program August 8, and Im still dealing with the board. Good luck

I am still in my program so far, but it has been an uphill battle. According to my school, certain clinical sites wont allow a student to enter their facility with a criminal background, but with my situation, my actual background and fingerprints are all clear because I had it all sealed up back in 2010. Every other week though, the story changes and my graduation and current enrollment is held over my held. I pray we both get the outcome we desire in a timely fashion. Good luck.

Okay, I just found out today my case is going to review. I'm supposed to graduate my BSN program May 16, 2015. From reading your post, there is hope that the enforcement may be less than 90 days, right???

I have an update... I called the Tx BON this am and it turns out that my case is going to review. I have not received the letter yet, but she told me when I do, I need to send the $150 and from then, its a 90 day process. I will have to tell my school this and pray that it doesn't affect my graduation. This process is so stressful. I'm wondering has anyone ever had a result sooner than 90 days? I saw that the board has a scheduled meeting mid April and I am wondering if my case will be handled then. I need prayers and a miracle at this point, but I'll keep everyone posted on the final decision.

My first clinical starts Feb 24, I know I won't have any answers by then so I will have to sit out of them. My other rotation starts March 31, I'm praying everyday, all day that I make them. I'm not as stressed waiting on the BON, its the fact that my graduation may be delayed until a decision is made. I had no idea that my school could force me out of clinicals for this. I've come so far, I just want to graduate.

Hello anyone reading this, I have read extensively about the Tx BON and the review process, its got me sick with stress. I am supposed to graduate this May from a BSN program and I just sent all my stuff to the BON. My school told me that if my case goes to the enforcement review I will have to withdrawal and sit out until the decision is made. From what I could gather, it seems that operations department has limited decision making power. My question is what can the operations department make decisions on? What kind if cases? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I to am stressed out of mind with this D.O. stuff. I am just learning all the things I have to do to get this done and I sent my information to the BON feb. 2. However, I also have been told by my school that I can not attend clinical's if I have not received approval by the BON before I am scheduled to start my clinical's. Did I mention that I am suppose to graduate May of this year??? Talk about extra stress. I have read all kinds of things and I feel like my stuff will end up going to enforcement and if it does, my school will make me take an "I" in my courses and sit out until the board makes a final decision. Praying for a miracle but preparing for the major set back.
