WC CM Resources
Thank you. I didn't mean to be so vague in my question. I have actually read through all of those threads in the past and they were very helpful in describing the role of a WC Case Manager. In fact, I ended up purchasing the Nursing Case Management book (Cohen and Cesta) because of the suggestion in the last thread you shared. I guess I was hoping there were some books/online resources that were specific to Worker's Comp?? Maybe there aren't any. I'm just trying to prepare myself as much as possible before I start the job...and maybe have some books ready to go if there are CM's that have found them to be helpful. I guess I'll just take off running and see how it goes! Thank you for the reply!

has anyone worked as a CARE manager for Senior Bridge?
Lacie, are you still employed with Senior Bridge?

has anyone worked as a CARE manager for Senior Bridge?
Do any of you work full time through Humana for Senior Bridge? The posting that I came across is through Humana, full-time, and doesn't say anything about "independent contractor" but I'm wondering if that is what it actually is. There are job listings for other cities that look exactly like mine except they specifically say "Independent Contractor."

References after employment lapse
I have not worked in the nursing field for almost 7 years. I took some time off to stay home with my children and now I'm ready to head back to nursing. The last position that I held was on the resource pool for the local group of hospitals. So...I worked on multiple units between 3 different hospitals. Other than the manager of the resource pool (and I haven't even checked to see if she is still the manager), I don't have any sources for a reference from that position. Prior to that, I worked on a med/surg floor at one of the 3 hospitals. That hospital became a stand-alone ER/urgent care after the new hospital was built...and all of the current employees were moved to various units at the new hospital. I know for a fact that the manager of that unit is no longer working at the new hospital. I am still in contact with a couple of the nurses that I worked closely with as a new grad (10 years ago) and I know that I could use them as references, but wouldn't a prospective employer want a more recent nursing reference? Any suggestions??

Single mom...interview tips
I have been away from a nursing career for almost 7 years and am preparing myself to head back to nursing. (Wish me luck...eeek!) I have a lot of preparation to do in order to get my resume up to date and be prepared for the interview process again. I took time off in order to be at home with my kids. Also, my husband at the time was in the military and frequently deployed overseas for long periods of time (which made it difficult to arrange child care for weekend/long shifts with no family in the area). I am now a single mom of 3 small children. If that discussion comes up in the interview process (why I took time off from nursing), I feel like a follow up question from them would be if my husband is still in the military...which would lead to me revealing that I'm a single mom. I know that it is illegal for them to ask my marital status questions, etc..., but how should I field those questions? I've never been in a position where I felt like any question was off limits, but I would be terrified if I had to point out that a question was illegal for them to ask (like a red flag that I had something to hide), but I don't know necessarily how to answer it. That being said, I feel like being a single mom of 3 kids might make an employer worried to hire me because of how "busy" my life as a mom is right now. Should I really try hard not to reveal that I'm a single mom? Long-term I am hoping to get into case management for a little more flexibility than bedside nursing, but I might have to start off with the home health experience or something similar before I can get my start in case management. So, if I applied for a job with a flexible schedule (maybe even eventual work at home opportunity), I can see the discussion of my parenting coming into play when I discuss why I would like that job. Just curious if anyone has any tips on how to prepare for these kinds of situations. I'm sure that I'll be posting more and more as I get closer to applying and interviewing. Thanks in advance for any help from those of you that are experienced in this process.

Wellpoint/Anthem BCBS phone interview
@cosmicmama and @vabeachnurse_, are you both still with Wellpoint and enjoying it? Wellpoint/Anthem is one of the companies I am looking into right now. Any tips on the current hiring process or how often case manager positions are available? I'm still a few months out from seriously looking. I'm in my information gathering phase! LOL! @vabeachnurse_, are you involved in any of the local nursing/CM associations?

Interested in Case Management; VA Beach
I have been an RN (BSN) for 12 years, but I have spent the last almost 7 years as a stay at home mom due to their father being in the military with frequent overseas deployments. I worked on an Ortho/Neuro/Trauma floor as a new-grad...and then an ortho/med-surg floor, and then as a float pool nurse for the 3 hospitals in my area. I am now a single mom looking for my way back into nursing. I can't imagine going back to 12 hour shifts/weekends/holiday as a single mom with no family nearby. I have been looking into case management. There are some insurance companies in my area (Virginia Beach) that are hiring case managers. Some offer the potential to work from home (which I feel would be ideal for me), but that is not an absolute necessity...Optima, Anthem/Wellpoint, etc... My first question is whether or not I even have a fighting chance at something like that without recent nursing experience?? Also, any tips on what I can be doing to get my foot into case management or something similar. I've seen a few nurse careline jobs posted, but they only have weekend shifts available at this time. Not sure if that is something that I would really be interested in anyways. I have been looking at networking with some of the nursing associations in my area as well. Any tips from those of you experienced in case management or utilization management?? Feel free to message me if you have recommendations of job opportunities or information on different employers. Thank you!!
